Josephine Marie Hall Wolfe (1929-2009)

Josephine Marie Hall Wolfe, 80, of Ashland, Ky., died Oct. 10, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a sudden illness.

She was born April 9, 1929, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Kenneth Hall and Lyda Marie Bates.

She was a homemaker and member of Kilgore United Methodist Church, where she was very active.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel A. Wolfe of Ashland; a son, Danny J. Wolfe and wife Sharon of Ashland; daughters Deborah S. Wolfe of Marion, Ohio, and Dana Wolfe Meyer and husband Matt of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Harry M. Marshall and wife Betty of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren Shelly, Alexander, Jacob, Nathan, Noah, Connor and Luke; and great-grandchildren August and Jordan.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Kilgore United Methodist Church, 14630 Ky. 854, Rush, Ky., by the Rev. Fred Wiles. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 13, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Paula Ann Ray (1972-2009)

Paula Ann Ray, 37, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009.

Paula was born April 8, 1972, in Louisa, Ky., a daughter of Roberta Keaton Ferguson.

She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Natalee Finley. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Gary L. Ray; four children, Gary Ray Jr., Kayla Ray, William Ray and Cody Ray, all of Rush, Ky. Paula also leaves behind four grandchildren whom she adored, Aaliyah Page Ray, Harmony Ocean Ray, Jada Barkley Ray and Kaylee, all of Rush. Also surviving are two sisters, Shelia Morrison and husband William of Rush and Jennifer Ferguson of Ashland, Ky.; and two brothers, Jonathan Ferguson of Ashland and Stacey Ferguson of Blaine, Ky.

A funeral to honor her life was at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. J.C. Caudill and the Rev. Cecil Caldwell. Burial was in Ray Family Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at the funeral home.



Juanita Keiser (1920-2009)

Juanita “Sis” Keiser of Hobe Sound, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.

She was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Russell, Ky., to the late James and Sylvia Workman.

Preceding her in death were her husband, William “Chet” Keiser; a daughter, Jessica Jackson; a granddaughter, Bunny Bailey; two brothers, L.A. “Bud” Workman and William “Bill” Stokes; and two sisters, Barbara Blevins and Madeline Clark.

Juanita was a member of Kenwood Missionary Baptist Church, where she was pianist and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of Forest Rose Lodge 656 and a past worthy matron of Eastern Star Mistletoe Chapter 144 in Russell.

She resided in Russell until her retirement from the Cinderella Sewing Factory and went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Jim Howard.

She always looked forward to coming home to Russell for her summer vacations.

Survivors include daughters Sylvia (Jim) Howard of Hobe Sound, Vera (Mike) Ison of Russell and Kaye (Paul) Webb, also of Russell; sons Bill (Linda) Keiser of Russell and Jon (Linda) Keiser of Hobe Sound; two sisters, Nellie Enyart of Lesage, W.Va., and Mercedes Schultz of Catlettsburg, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Rev. Jack Edwards officiating. Burial was in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.



Ruth Pelfrey (1932-2009)

Ruth King Pelfrey, 76, of Ashland, died Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Ashland.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 22 at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1320 Bath Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.



Sharon Hardin (1948-2009)

Sharon I. McDowell Hardin, 61, of South Shore, died Sunday in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

She was born July 12, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Thestil Slone

Thestil Slone, 82, of Shelbiana, died Saturday at his residence.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie Slone.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Thacker Funeral Home in Pikeville. Burial will be in Annie E. Young Cemetery at Chloe.



Emma Boyd (1949-2009)

Emma Jane Sluss Boyd, 59, of Louisa, died Saturday at her residence.

She was born Nov. 7, 1949.

Her husband, Paul Boyd, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Sluss Cemetery in Richardson.

Country Cousin Nolan Hall (1950-2009)

Country Cousin Nolan Eddie Hall, 59, of Salyersville, died Friday in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born Jan. 16, 1950, in Pike County.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday at Salyersville Christian Church. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the funeral home.



Mitchell Petkus (1935-2009)

Mitchell James Petkus, 74, of Wallingford, died Sunday at his residence.

He was born March 18, 1935.

A graveside service will be Saturday at Kinross Township Cemetery in Kinross, Mich.

There will be no visitation.

Gary Lyles (1957-2009)

Gary Wayne Lyles, 52, of Vanceburg, died Sunday at his residence.

He was born Aug. 3, 1957, in Mansfield, Ohio.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial will be in Liles Cemetery in Camp Dix, with military rites by VFW Monte Lewis Stamm Post 5438 of Vanceburg.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Billie Wireman

Billie Jo Wireman, 70, of Staffordsville, died Sunday in Ohio.

Her husband, Robert Wireman, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Paintsville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Foley Cemetery at Auxier.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Waite & Son Funeral Home in Medina, Ohio, and from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Paintsville Funeral Home.

Lucille Bogan (1926-2009)

Lucille Callahan Bogan, 82, of Morehead, died Sunday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

She was born Oct. 23, 1926.

Her husband, Wilbert M. Bogan, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Callahan Cemetery at Lawton.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and all day Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Large (1926-2009)

Mary Frances Large, 83, of Dayton, died Friday in Kettering Hospital.

She was born May 22, 1926, in Ironton.

Her husband, Kenneth Wayne Large, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery.

Vernon Stanfill (1953-2009)

Vernon R. Stanfill, 56, of Fort Gay, died Saturday.

He was born July 5, 1953, in Middletown, Ohio.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Tolsia High School gymnasium, with honors presented by members of Fort Gay Volunteer Fire Department.

Shonah Lisa Kitchen, 46, of Westmoreland, formerly of Ceredo, died Saturday at her residence.
