Paul Click - 1929-2009

Paul Edward Click, 79, of Athens, Texas, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.

Paul was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Floyd County, Ky., to the late Bennie and Catherine Conley Click.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in WWII and Korea. After serving in the Army, Paul moved to the Ashland area where he later retired from AK Steel as a crane operator. He was a member of the VFW, an avid coin collector and a very dedicated grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Click in 2007 and seven siblings.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Pam Ross of Maryland; a stepson, LaWade Jensen of Illinois; two sisters, Elizabeth Moore of Louisville and Ruth Edmonds of Ashland; three grandchildren including grandson, Jason Tatum and his wife Melissa of Athens; and two great-grandchildren, Maci and Noah Tatum of Athens.

Cooper Funeral Home in Athens was in charge of arrangements.



Vivian Burke - 1920-2009

Vivian Olive Cole Burke, 89, formerly of Catlettsburg, passed away Saturday Oct. 17, 2009, in Richmond, where she was residing with her granddaughter, Lara (George) Dulaney, and the apples of her eyes, Mason and Dawson.

Mrs. Burke was born March 24, 1920, in Mount Vernon, Mo., a daughter of the late George and Martha Ella Stogsdill Cole. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Laburn Burke; two brothers, Jack Cole and Milford Cole; and two sisters, Reva Maynard and Wilma Phillips.

She was an Avon representative, known as “The Avon Lady,” for 53 years.

Surviving are her sons, Larry (Mary Lou) Burke of David, Ky., and David Dean (Pat) Burke of Georgetown, Ky.; a daughter, Linda “Bubbles” (John Kanouse) Kirtley of Ashland; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Burke will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Officiating will be the Rev. Philip Duncan. Committal will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland, Ky.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to Hospice Care Plus and Jackie Barnes.



Infant Kiersten Raine Nelson

Infant Kiersten Raine Nelson, daughter of Larry and Kimberly Collins Nelson of Catlettsburg, was born into the Lord’s hands on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland.



Jeffrey Kyle Harris - 1987-2009

Jeffrey Kyle Harris, 22, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Oct. 19, 2009, at his residence.

He was born May 16, 1987, in Ashland, Ky., a son of Billy Ray Jr. and Tonya Sue Sloan Harris.

He was self-employed in lawn care, attended Mount Zion Church, was a 2005 graduate of Boyd County High School, attended ACTC, enjoyed camping and loved riding his four-wheeler and road motocross at the Boyd County and Milton, W.Va., fairgrounds and at Wolfe Creek in Proctorville, Ohio.

Additional survivors include his paternal grandparents, Billy “Sonny” and Charlotte Tussey Harris of Rush, Ky.; maternal grandparents J.D. and Jeanie Edwards Sloan of Ashland; uncle and aunt Thomas and Cathy Sloan of Flatwoods; cousins T.J. Sloan, Jennifer Sloan and Matthew Sloan; his girlfriend, Laura Ann Burns; a brother, Kevin Ray Harris of Catlettsburg; and a sister, Karilyn Faith Harris of Catlettsburg.

Kyle was dearly loved by his parents and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

The funeral will be at noon Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Brian Steele. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Bob Nolan - 1950-2009

Robert Dale Nolan Sr., 59, of Catlettsburg, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Nolan was born Aug. 9, 1950, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Robert Ellis and Helen Laura Mabes Nolan.

Bob served our great nation honorably with the United States Army and was a lieutenant with the Catlettsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Kentucky colonel, attended Catlettsburg High School and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and time spent with his grandchildren.

Surviving is a loving family including his wife of 41 years, Jeanne Hughes Nolan. Their home was blessed with four children, Robert Dale (Tammy) Nolan Jr. of Raceland, Brian Patrick Nolan, Scott Richard (Amber) Nolan and Lisa Renee (Ed) Scappaticcio, all of Ashland; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darryl Keith (Donna) Nolan of Proctorville, Ohio and Shawn Dwayne Nolan of Flatwoods; a sister, Terri Lynn (Don) Schwartz of Flatwoods; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Leona Hughes; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death was a sister, Janet Peterman

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Officiating will be Pastor Frank Hulett and Larry Ashley. Final rest will be in Thompson Family Cemetery in Louisa.

Those wishing to call on the Nolan family may do so after noon Thursday at the funeral home.



Kennie Ray Brewer - 1943-2009

Kennie Ray Brewer, 65, of South Shore, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Paintsville, Ky., a son of the late Kennie Brewer and O. Marie Lockwood Brewer. He was a retired machinist for the former National Mine Service Co. in Wurtland, Ky. He was a member of South Shore First Christian Church, a U.S. Marine, and a member of Cpl. Tim Bauer Detachment 720 of Portsmouth, Ohio, and James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Jay (Tracy) Brewer of Kaihoua, Hawaii; a daughter and her husband, Melissa (Jeff) Holmes of Portsmouth; a sister, Sheila K. Smith of Lexington, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Caden Holmes, Natasha Brewer and Casey Holmes.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 21, 2009, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with Bill Hayden and Danny Bentley, ministers, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Military graveside service will be by James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.

Geraldine Plummer - 1916-2009

Geraldine Howerton Plummer, 93, of South Shore, formerly of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Monday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born April 10, 1916, in Elliott County.

Her husband, Edgar Shannon Plummer, died in 1983.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.



Hattie Caskey

Hattie Caskey, 92, of Lawrence County, died Monday in Elliott County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook.

Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Henry Green

Henry Green, 63, of Louisa, died Monday in Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.

Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Roxie Allen

Roxie Rae Oney Allen, 89, of West Liberty, died Monday in Edgewood Estates Nursing Home in Frenchburg.

Her husband, Raliegh Allen, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Gullett Cemetery at White Oak.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Florence Michaels - 1919-2009

Florence Louise Massie Michaels, 89, of Pedro, died Tuesday at her residence.

She was born Nov. 10, 1919.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Vinson Orlyn Massie in 1960 and James Michaels in 1964.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Old Baptist Church. Burial will be in Old Baptist Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton and an hour before services Friday at the church.

Lauda Sartin - 1929-2009

Lauda Maynard Sartin, 80, of Fort Gay, died Monday in Hospice of Huntington.

She was born March 30, 1929, in Inez, Ky.

Her husband, Cleotis Sartin, died in 2002.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith Chapel Church. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery in Fort Gay.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the church.
