Frances Conley (1920-2009)

Frances Cyrus Conley, 89, of Catlettsburg, now rests in the arms of our Savior after her passing in King’s Daughters Medical Center on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009.

Mrs. Conley was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Roscoe and Lillie Malcolm Cyrus. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Foster Conley; two brothers, Downing and Merlin Cyrus; and a grandson, Greg Ferguson.

Frances was a selector for Owens Illinois, a cashier at Craycraft’s Foodland, a volunteer at Cabell-Huntington Hospital and a faithful member of Eastern Star, the Boyd County Homemakers and Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang with the choir. She was an excellent cook and her meals were enjoyed by all.

Surviving are her loving children, Fred Conley of Inverness, Fla., Joyce Ferguson and her husband, John, of Kenova, W.Va., and Linda “Cookie” Lastition and her husband, Walter, of Leesburg, Fla.; and a special daughter, Louise Ferguson of Ceredo, W.Va. Additionally, she had eight grandchildren, Jim Ferguson of Hurricane, W.Va., Jeff Adkins of Raleigh, N.C., Chris Adkins of Leesburg, Lisa Solomon of Sylva, N.C., Stephen Conley of Homosassa, Fla., Cheri Connolly of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Bradley Conley and Ashley Conley of Inverness; a special niece, Debbie Bator of Huntington, W.Va.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Frances Conley will be at noon Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort and hope will be offered by Pastor Paul Badgett, with a personal eulogy by Pastor Mike Blankenship. Final rest will be in Docks Creek Cemetery in Kenova.

Friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests contributions be made in Frances’ memory to the Oakland Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 3265 Oakland Ave., Catlettsburg, KY 41129.



Harold Bradley

Harold Bradley, 82, formerly of Russell, devoted husband of Doris E. Bradley (nee White) for 63 years, passed away Oct. 27, 2009.

He was the loving father of Mike (Lana) Bradley and Mary Ann Bradley; dear grandfather of David Bradley and Stacy (Chris) Robinson; and great-grandfather of Logan Robinson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 29 at Hodapp Funeral Home, 8815 Cinti-Columbus Road (Route 42), West Chester, OH 45069.

A celebration service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30 at Sharonville United Methodist Church, 3751 Creek Road, Sharonville, OH 45241. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Donations may be sent to Hospice of Cincinnati or the church.



Clarice I. Claxon (1922-2009)

Clarice I. Claxon, 87, of Grayson, Ky., died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.

She was born on Tuesday, March 14, 1922, in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Morton Counts and the late Georgia Martin Counts.

Surviving are her son, Morton R. (Nancy) Claxon of Thorsby, Ala.; three granddaughters, Glenna (Mark) Dawson of Jemison, Ala., Angie (Johnny) Thomas of Birmingham, Ala., and Karla (Ron) Gore of Jemison; five great-grandchildren, Ali Dawson of Jemison, Kendra Dawson of Jemison, Blake Thomas of Birmingham, Amber Thomas of Birmingham and Wesley Gore of Jemison; and two sisters, Betty Jean Vincent of Grayson and Dixie Everman of Grayson.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Claxon; her mother, Georgia Counts; her father, Morton Counts; a sister, Dorothy Nipp; and brothers Cecil Counts, Hoard Counts, Norman Counts and George Counts.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 29, 2009, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at the funeral home. Interment will be in East Carter Memory Gardens.

Martin Funeral Home in Clanton, Ala., is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Zeto (1922-2009)

Sarah Georgene Justice Zeto, 87, of Logan, W.Va., died Oct. 14 in Trinity Healthcare in Logan.

She was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Catlettsburg.

Her husband, Louis Zeto, survives.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Imogene Griffith

Imogene Griffith, 60, of Grayson, died Wednesday.

Malone Funeral Home in Grayson is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Oral Simpson

Oral Simpson, 72, of Frenchburg, died Tuesday in St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling.

His wife, Bonnie Stamper Simpson, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church in Frenchburg. Burial will be in Back Cemetery in Wellington.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Menifee Home for Funerals in Frenchburg is in charge of arrangements.



Edgar Fyffe

Edgar Ivan Fyffe, 70, of Louisa, died Tuesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Drusilla Fyffe and Martha Steele Fyffe.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Paint Valley Memorial Gardens in Crockett.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Edith Blankenship (1930-2009)

Edith Blankenship, 79, died Tuesday in Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born May 26, 1930.

Her husband, Bryan Keith Blankenship, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Thacker Funeral Home in Pikeville. Burial will be in Annie E. Young Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and all day Friday at the funeral home.



Virnel “V.J.” Newsome (1922-2009)

Virnel Jack “V.J.” Newsome, 87, died Monday in Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born June 6, 1922, in Virgie.

His wife, Pearlie Newsome, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Thacker Funeral Home in Pikeville. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery at Hi Hat.



Lawrence Ousley (1960-2009)

Lawrence Dean Ousley, 49, of Prestonsburg, died Monday at his residence.

He was born May 24, 1960, in Martin.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Ousley Cemetery in Prestonsburg.



Herbert Lewis (1937-2009)

Herbert Ray Lewis, 72, of Clearfield, died Wednesday at his residence.

He was born Feb. 9, 1937.

His wife, Irene Kidd Lewis, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Ditney Cemetery.

James Edward Carlyle, 42, of Ironton, died Sunday at his residence.

He was born Dec. 11, 1966, in Ironton.
