Dorothy Marie Hignite - 1924-2009
Dorothy Marie Hignite, 85, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her loving family, on Nov. 1, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Fred and Eliza Wright Thompson.
She was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
She was a former cashier at Mussetters and a homemaker. She was a member of Westwood Church of God.
Surviving are her loving husband of 68 years, Garrett Hignite of Ashland; a son, Gretchel Hignite and wife Cathy of Madison, Ala.; two daughters, Ruth Phelps of Boyd County and Ava Miller and husband Ricky of Ashland; grandchildren Lori Simmons and husband Brian, Linda Henderson and husband Steve, Christopher Hignite, Cory Hignite, Brandon Hignite, Gretchen Calloway and husband Patrick, Cathy Whitley, Crystal Love and husband Jason and Vicki Tuell and husband Brent; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Chris Keeton. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Dixie J. Robbins - 1951-2009
Dixie J. Robbins, 58, of Ironton, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley.
Born on Sept. 27, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Eva Castle Stacy. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Garland Stacy Sr., and a sister, Betty Meade.
Surviving are a son, Chad E. Robbins of Ashland; two daughters, April Jo Robbins of Ashland and Sonya A. Heckart and husband Shawn of Blandon, Pa.; and a granddaughter, Ashtyn “Gracie” Heckart. Other survivors include three brothers, Ershel (Dixie) Stacy of Argillite, Ky., and Norman (Mary) Stacy and Glen Melvin (Peggy) Stacy, all of Circleville, Ohio; and two sisters, Anna (Tony) Click and Susie (Roger) Ison, all of Circleville.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel.

Ethel Perry - 1908-2009
Ethel Thompson Perry, 100, of Ashland, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, Nov. 1, 2009, from her home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Perry was born Nov. 12, 1908, in Webbville, Ky., the daughter of the late Horace and Zelphia Perkins Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lewis Jack Perry; two sons, Ray Walden Perry and Herbert Woodrow Perry; three brothers, Harry Thompson, Woodrow Thompson and David Thompson; and five sisters, Ruth Cope, Myrtle Woods, Mary Kelly, Edith Eaton and Vivian Eaton.
Ethel was an employee of the TB Hospital in Ashland and a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Tabernacle. She loved to sing, enjoyed quilting and was a wonderful homemaker and cook.
Surviving is a loving family, including three sons, Robert Allen (Helen) Perry of Mount Sterling, Ohio, William D. “Bill” (Mary) Perry of Grayson, Ky., and Randy (Vickie) Perry of Destin, Fla.; two daughters, Gloria Jean (Kenton) Webb and Ruth Neal, all of Ashland; daughters-in-law Annette Perry of Jacksonville, Fla., and Peggy Perry of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a sister, Edna Bowen of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Ruby Thompson of Ashland, Ky.; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Coalton First Baptist Church. Pastors David Webb and Randy Binion will officiate. Committal will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 3, 2009, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg and an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Odell Skeens - 1942-2009
Odell Skeens, 67, of Ashland passed Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, following an extended illness.
Odell was born Sept. 6, 1942, in Louisa, Ky., to the late Clarence and Tiny Joe Muncy Skeens.
Odell worked as an auto mechanic. He was a member of Rush Lodge 715, F&AM;, and 13th Street Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Skeens, and a sister Kathleen Vaughn.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip Skeens of Youngstown, Ohio, and the Rev. Rick Skeens of Ashland; a daughter, Marsha (James) McDowell of Huntington, W.Va.; three brothers, the Rev. Jack Skeens of Ashland, William Skeens of Lexington and Thomas Skeens of Apple Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Joy (Lace) Hampton of Charlottesville, Va. and Diane (Tom) Sparks of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Anthony Skeens, Courtney McDowell, Bethany Skeens, Savannah McDowell, Daniel Skeens and Hannah Skeens; and a great-grandchild, Ciera Brook Arthur.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, by the Rev. David Mckinney at 13th Street Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Ron Chapman - 1942-2009
Ronald Ray Chapman, 67, formerly of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, S.C.
Born Oct. 11, 1942, in Ashland, Ky., he was the son of the late Otis Guy and Bertha B. Chapman. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired employee of General Motors in Pontiac, Mich. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Y. Chapman; children Ron Chapman Jr. of Midland, Mich., Phil Chapman and wife Georgia of Chicago, Ill., Angela McCauley and husband Rich of Anderson, Therese Stevens and husband Ted of Glasgow, Mo., and Christine Chapman of Anderson; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Rosalie Workman and husband Harold of Ashland, Phyllis Miller Dolan and husband Chuck and Carol Stewart, all of Catlettsburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Roger Jones and Gary Miller.
A memorial service was at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the Church of Christ, 1136 Brown Road, Anderson, S.C., by Minister Gavin Coriell.

Howard McGlone
Howard McGlone, 88, of Greenup, Ky., passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at his residence in the arms of Jesus, also surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born at Rooney, Ky., a son of the late Samuel Fred McGlone and Mollissic Kiser McGlone.
He was a member of Load Christian Baptist Church in Load, Ky., a World War II Army veteran, retired from the former C-E Refractory of South Shore, Ky., and a farmer.
He loved to go to church and sit on his porch waving and smiling at every car that went by.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Roger McGlone; a granddaughter, Angel Esposito; five brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Ethel Janice McGlone; a son, Leonard (Debbie) McGlone of South Shore; a daughter, Chyrl (Tony) Esposito of Greenup; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Esposito of Greenup; two grandsons, Jason (LeAnne) McGlone of Grayson, Ky., and Aaron McGlone of Lexington, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Whitley and Ty McGlone of Grayson; and two very special friends, Jerry Wolfe and Olivia Chapman. Mary Porter - 1920-2009
Mary Porter, 89, of Raceland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Porter was born March 26, 1920, in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late George Arch and Minnie Jefferson Nichols.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Dee Nichols, and a brother, George Nichols.
She was a retired sales associate for Hills Department Store and a member of Ice Creek Baptist Church and the Greenup County Homemakers Club.
Surviving are her loving husband, Edward Vent Porter; two daughters, Christie Fannin of Ashland, Ky., and Carolyn Tingler of Worthington, Ky.; a son, Edward (Sylvia) Porter of Richmond, Ky.; a stepson, Paul Vernon of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; eight grandchildren, John Porter, David Porter, Steven Porter, Andrew Fannin, Brian Porter, Nick Fannin, Lisa Porter and Joseph McClure Tingler; six great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Carol Porter of Russell, Ky.

Kenneth Ray Skeens - 1938-2009
Kenneth Ray Skeens, 71, of Load, peacefully rests with Jesus after his passing early Monday morning, Nov. 2, 2009, at his residence.
Kenneth was born March 29, 1938, in Westville, Ohio, a son of the late Joe and Gladys Collier Skeens.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Barry Eugene, and a sister, Geraldine Howard.
He was a retired truck driver and attended Load Christian Baptist Church.
Surviving is his loving wife of 52 years, Gladys Tackett Skeens. Together they had four children, Gary (Connie) Skeens, Daniel (Carla) Skeens, Terry (Dana) Skeens and Melissa (Erik) Brown, all of Load. He had 13 grandchildren, Gary Skeens Jr., Kenneth (Marlene) Skeens II, Michael Hampton, Daniel Wagoner, Donnie Wagoner, Marquiz Hall, Rashard Carter, Cassandra Skeens, Jordan Skeens, Lauren Skeens, Shannon Wireman, Tyler Skeens and Joshua Delawder; two great-grandchildren, Daylyn Skeens and Angelrae Bates; two sisters, Faitha (Jess) Bryan of Grayson and Patty (Danny) Abdon of Load; and a brother, Donnie Skeens of Greenup.

Jared Edward Sturtevant, 10, of Hitchins, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, Nov. 1, 2009, in Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 4, 1999, in Lakeland, Fla., a son of Edward and Lora Howard Sturtevant of Hitchins.
Jared was a member of Mills Branch Apostolic Church. He loved going to church and telling everyone about the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother and two sisters, Joshua David Sturtevant, Kassandra Ann Sturtevant and Kaitlyn Lee Sturtevant, all of Hitchins.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Mills Branch Apostolic Church in Olive Hill, Ky., with Pastor Joe Ruley officiating. Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery on Blueberry Ridge in Olive Hill.
