Harold Conley (1925-2009)
Harold David “HC” Conley, 83, of Westwood, husband of Betty Conley, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 6, 2009, at Community Hospice Care Center following an extended illness.
Harold was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Ashland, Ky., to the late Daniel Boone and Ivory Coffee Conley.
Harold was a veteran of the US Navy, having served on the USS Walker off of the coast of Pearl Harbor. He was a retired pipefitter with Local #248 and had 65 years of service. He, along with his wife, was co-owner of Harold Conley & Sons Plumbing, Harold Conley Mechanical Contractors, Inc., The Dairy Hut Restaurant and Westwood KVD Hardware, all located in Westwood.
He was a 48 year member of Poage Lodge #325 F&AM;, Valley of Covington Scottish Rite Mason, El Hasa Shrine, Charter Member of the Clown Unit, Life Member of Ashland Post VFW Post, Member of Clarence Fields Post #76 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a son, Joe David Conley; two brothers, Roy Conley and Mickey Conley; and a great-grandson, Connor James Walkup.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Jo Morris Conley of Westwood; a son, Marty Daniel Conley of Westwood; a brother, Marvin Conley of Rush, Ky.; four grandchildren, Marty Conley, Matt Conley, Joe Conley and Danielle Walkup; and seven great-grandchildren, Jake Conley, Marley Conley, Kaylee Conley, Maddie Conley, Karley Conley, Jay David Walkup and Julianna Jo Walkup.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev. Fred Miles. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening and one hour before services Monday at the funeral home. Scottish Rite services will be conducted by Ashland-Russell Scottish Rite Club Members at 6:45 p.m. this evening. Masonic services will follow by officers and members of Poage Lodge #325. Military graveside services will be conducted by Kenova American Legion.
Charles Edward “Chuck” Dickison (1955-2009)
Charles Edward “Chuck” Dickison passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009. He was born Nov. 29, 1955, to Nelle and Virgil Dickison of Ashland, Ky.
Chuck was a graduate of Paul Blazer High School and attended the Columbus College of Art and Design and Marshall University. He served in the Marines from 1977 to 1983 and was awarded expert badges in marksmanship and a good conduct medal. During his time in the military, he was assigned to teach marksmanship to officers. Another part of his military service involved graphics. He was employed in the graphics industry in Lexington, Ky. and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Chuck was a lover of nature and an avid outdoorsman, as well as a talented artist. His kind a gentle spirit will be missed by his loving wife, Jeanette (Cathey) Dickison, whom he married in 1990, and his daughter Lucinda.
In addition to his parents, wife and daughter, he is also survived by a sister, Kathy Dickison of Lexington, Ky. and a brother, Jay and wife Lynette (Justice) Dickison of Ashland, Ky. Chuck was endeared by nephews Bysshe Easton of Barkley, Calif., Adam Dickison of Louisville, Ky. and Hunter Dickison of Ashland, Ky. He will also be especially missed by many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A reception in memory of Chuck will be at 6 p.m. on Monday at Ashland First Church of the Nazarene. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Felicity Cemetery in Felicity, Ohio, and hospitality afterwards at the Felicity Nazarene Church.
Edna Marie Floyd Stapleton (1916-2009)
Edna Marie Floyd Stapleton, 93, surrounded by her family and friends, went to be with the Lord Nov. 7, 2009, in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Home. She was born July 16, 1916, in Carter County to the late George and Emma Elliott Floyd. She was a housewife and a mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Stapleton; four brothers, Leonard, Lonnie, Clyde and John Floyd; three sisters, Betty Stephens, Ruby Simon and Evie Wilburn; a daugher, Mae Louise Walker of Ashland; and five sons, Luther (Gledia) Stapleton of Lorain, Ohio, Leroy (Patty), Earl (Claudette), Randall (Jackie) Stapleton, all of Ashland, Ky., and Donald (Joy) Stapleton of Rush.
The Lord blessed her with 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the Straight Creek Nazarene Church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Malone Funeral Home with Brother Mickey King officiating. Burial will be in the Adkins Cemetery near Grayson.

Carl McFarland (1925-2009)
William C. “Carl” McFarland, 84, of Catlettsburg, passed away late Friday evening, Nov. 6, 2009, in Hospice House of Huntington. He was born May 25, 1925, to the late William R. and Ethel Spradlin McFarland.
Carl, or “Mack,” as he was known by the drivers, retired from Ashland Oil as a driver with the Haulzit Division and was a recipient of the Two Million Mile Safety Award. He also served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corp, Pacific Fleet, where Sgt. McFarland helped turn the tides against the Japanese at the Battle of Midway. Always remembered as a quiet-spoken man of faith, Carl was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and had been superintendent of Burnaugh Baptist Church for many years.
Carl was the loving husband for 53 years to Cora Porter McFarland, who left his side in June of 1998. Their home was blessed with two wonderful children, a daughter, Carla Ross of Catlettsburg, and a son, Michael McFarland and his wife Brenda of Statesville, N.C.; two brothers, Glen McFarland and Robert McFarland, both of Catlettsburg; a sister, Kay Welborn of Catlettsburg; and seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, three brothers preceded him in death, David McFarland, Cecil McFarland and Melvin McFarland.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens with a committal by Pastor Dicky Tiller. Honorary casket bearers will be Junior McFarland, Glen McFarland, Bryan Ross, Chris McFarland, John Norris and Michael McFarland. Military honors will be observed at the grave.

Rebecca Tressler (1957-2009)
Rebecca Tressler, 57, of Ashland, died Saturday in Community Hospice Care Center. Her husband, Bradley Tressler, survives.

Pearl Tackett (1927-2009)
Peral Tackett, 82, of Olive Hill, died Thursday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. She was born June 3, 1927, in Carter County.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill. Burial will be in the Ross Chapel Cemetery on Bens Run Road in Olive Hill.

Glover Walter “Walkie” Spencer, 76, of Martin, died Friday at his residence. He was born March 16, 1933, in Drift. His wife, Ruby Lee Maggard Spencer, survives.

Parilee Hall (1925-2009)
Parilee Hall, 83, of Bevinsville, died Friday at her residence. She was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Buckingham, Ky. Her husband, Charles L. Hall, preceded her in death.
