Donald B. Milligan - 1933-2009

Donald B. Milligan, 76, of Hampton, Va., formerly of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in James River Convalescent Center in New Port News, Va.

Mr. Milligan was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Flatwoods, Ky., a son of the late Julian C. and Mable Z. Campbell Milligan. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Cecil Milligan; a brother, Cecil Milligan; and a sister, Barbara Stacy.

He was a retired electrician for the C&O; Railroad and a United States National Guard veteran. Donald was an avid gunsmith for many years. He loved hunting and fishing. His love for guns was unbelievable. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He built remote control airplanes and enjoyed flying them as well.

Surviving are his loving wife, Elizabeth C. Davis Milligan; a daughter, Leisa Myers of Stafford, Va.; a son and his wife, Donald B. and Diana Milligan Jr. of Hampton, Va.; a brother and his wife, Charles O. and Gloria Milligan of Gulf Port, Miss.; six grandchildren, Allen Myers, Daniel Myers, Kim Milligan, Stephanie Milligan, Kayla Milligan and Brooke Milligan; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Milligan and Briana Marion; and a niece and her husband, Christie and Bobby Dohan of Alabama.

Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 11, 2009, at Ashland Cemetery in Ashland. Dr. Tom Melvin will officiate the services.

Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.



Marvin R. Hogan - 1926-2009

Marvin R. Hogan, 83, of Naples, Fla., passed away Nov. 8, 2009, in Bentley Village Care Center in Naples after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born on March 5, 1926, in Fairburn, Ga., he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Floy Morrow Hogan.

He was a resident of Ashland from 1959 to 1962, served with the U.S. Department of Justice and retired as a U.S. Federal Prison warden in Atlanta in 1977. He moved to Naples, where he became active in the golfing community. He was a member of First Baptist Church Naples, a Kentucky colonel and was on the FBI National Crime Information Center Advisory Board.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ellen Jane Easterling Hogan; sisters-in-law Elizabeth E. Dobyns and Opal (George) E. Spurlock of Ashland; and many beloved family members and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at The Abbey Chapel at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with interment immediately following at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Naples, 3000 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples, FL 34109 or Avow Hospice, 1095 Whipporwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.

Janice Combs Rakes - 1933-2009

Janice Combs Rakes, 76, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at her home.

She was born May 20, 1933, in Wayne County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Charles E. and Ruth Holland Combs. Janice was a cafeteria cook for the Boyd County School District and a member of Bethlehem United Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Rakes, and a son, Charles E. Rakes Jr.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie Lee and Thomas Henderson of Lancaster, Ky.; a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Melinda Rakes of Catlettsburg; a brother, Burl E. Combs of Kannapolis, N.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 11, 2009, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the funeral home with Elders Richard Napier and Doug Slone officiating. Burial will be in Rakes Family Cemetery.

John Wayne Martin - 1947-2009

John Wayne Martin, 62, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1947, in Newark, Ohio, a son of the late Walter and Beulah Ross Martin.

He was a Marines veteran who served in Vietnam, was a member of Grayson United Pentecostal Church and a retired EMT at Lockwood Docks.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Portia Eldridge Martin; a son, Jonathan and wife, Rebecca Martin, of Grayson; a sister, Barbara Martin of Columbus, Ohio; brothers Charles Martin of Odgen, Utah, John Jack Martin of Newark and Gary Martin, Don Grigsby and George Grigsby, all of Chillicothe, Ohio; two granddaughters, Ceselie Martin and Evony Martin; a nephew, Whitey and wife Kim Gullett and Ira and Elizabeth Griffith; great-nephews David Gullett, Dwight Gullett, Ryan Griffith and Conner Griffith; and two great-nieces, Destiny Gullett and Cianna Griffith.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grayson United Pentecostal Church with Brother Ron Knox and Brother Darrell Gollihue, ministers. Burial will be in Cribbs Hill Cemetery.

Ronnie Dale Adkins - 1948-2009

Ronnie Dale Adkins, 61, of Grayson, Ky., died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born June 5, 1948, in Elliott County, Ky., to Walter (deceased) and Opal Skaggs Adkins.

He served as a longtime member and crime scene photographer of the Versailles Police Department in Versailles, Ky., as a park ranger at Kentucky Dam Village and Boonesboro state parks and a correctional officer with the Department of Corrections at different state prisons before enlisting as a lieutenant at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty, Ky. He was the owner of Guns, Gold, and Cash Pawn Shop in Grayson for 18 years.

Mr. Adkins was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ in Grayson.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Gene Adkins.

He is survived by his mother; his fiancee, Mary Huff of Grayson; three sons, Christopher (Crystal) Adkins of Nicholasville, Ky., Eric (Nikki) Adkins of Versailles and Scott (Heather) Adkins of Owensboro, Ky.; and a daughter, Angela Adkins of Winchester, Ky. He is also survived by two brothers, Ricky (Carmen) Adkins and Donald Adkins, all of Versailles; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Donald Damron, Bradley Cotten and John Brooks officiating. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions to the Shriners Hospital.



Clara Margaret Blevins Seagraves - 1919-2009

Clara Margaret Blevins Seagraves, 90, of Grayson, died early Tuesday morning following a long illness.

She was born May 5, 1919, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Tom and Cora Stephens Blevins.

She was a member of the United Baptist Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Clem Seagraves of Grayson; eight sons, William Thomas (Elsie) of Hitchins, Bobby Eugene (Peg) of Grayson, James Edward of Grayson, Roger Lee (Helen) of Rush, Roy Dean (Sue) of Hitchins, Clem Jr. (Donna) of Grayson, Randy Gale (Mary) of Grayson and Howard Dale of Morehead; a brother, Bert Blevins of Olive Hill; 36 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will be in Edison Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and until services Thursday at the funeral home.



William Duke “Bill” McKenzie - 1938-2009

William Duke “Bill” McKenzie, 71, of Little Rock, Ark., died Nov. 7, 2009, in Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.

He was born March 7, 1938 in Auxier, Ky., a son of the late William Troy “Duke” McKenzie and Irma Mae Marshall McKenzie.

Mr. McKenzie was a resident of Little Rock since 1957. He retired in 1990 from the Parts Warehouse in Little Rock. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Troy “Bo” McKenzie.

Surviving are his wife, Murvella Harris McKenzie of Little Rock; a daughter, Chris Anna Reithard (Dave) of Altoona, Pa.; and two sisters, Judith Porter of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Martha Thompson of Pikeville, Ky.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Carter Funeral Home in Prestonsburg by Calvin Setser. Burial will be in Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg, with military rites by Big Sandy DAV Chapter 18.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Ginger “Jim” Dowell

Ginger “Jim” Dowell, 85, of Ashland, died Tuesday in Community Hospice Care Center.

Charles Cooksey, 73, of Grayson, formerly of Webbville, died Tuesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Vernon Kiser

Vernon Lee Kiser, 74, of Mount Sterling, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, died Monday in Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie Kiser.

Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.



Patsy Wright - 1923-2009

Patsy Shannon Wright died Sunday.

She was born June 12, 1923, at Gallup.

Her husband, Homer Wright Jr., preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Louisa.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa and after 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund.



Morton Nolen - 1937-2009

Morton Darrel Nolen, 72, of Wallingford, died Monday.

He was born May 21, 1937, at Camp Dix.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery.

Pearl McKenzie - 1920-2009

Pearl McKenzie, 89, of Louisa, died Monday in J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center in Louisa.

She was born Oct. 26, 1920, at Phelps.

Her husband, Willard McKenzie, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in McKenzie Cemetery at Chapman.

Friends may call after noon today at the church.

Myrtle Jent - 1934-2009

Myrtle Anna Lea Kelly Jent, 75, of Morehead, died Tuesday at her residence.

She was born Oct. 3, 1934.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Slaty Point Cemetery.

Paul Pack - 1926-2009

Paul Vencil Pack, of Paintsville, died Tuesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Johnson County.

His wife, Ilene Selvage Pack, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Jesse Cain Sr. - 1928-2009

Jesse Cain Sr., 81, of Ironton, died Monday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

He was born May 4, 1928, in Wetumpka, Ala.

His wife, Hazel Meredith Cain, survives.
