Ginger L. “Jimmie” Dowell - 1924-2009
Ginger L. “Jimmie” Dowell, 85, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 10, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born May 20, 1924, in Big Springs, Ky., a son of the late Lorenzo Burnas and Lula Woods Dowell.
His wife, Betty June Osburn Dowell, died in 2005.
He was a retired machinist with National Mine Service Co. and a World War II Army veteran who received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars.
Surviving are sons Robert Louis (Debbie) Dowell of Ashland and Gary Michael Dowell of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters Cheryl (Garry) Lewis of Ashland, Gaye Lynn (Michael) Phillips of Ashland, Ida Lu Anne (Mark) Hermansdorfer of Indialantic, Fla., and Sue Ellen (Jeff) Adams of Ashland; a brother, Elra (Jean) Dowell of Elizabethtown, Ky.; a sister, Louise (Bill) Hanson of Washington State; grandchildren Jim Lewis, Angela Lewis, Joe Dowell, Matt McDowell, Deanna Lambert, Christina Dowell, Ian Dowell, Heather Robinson, John Adams, Derrick Hermansdorfer, Ginger Adams and Keelyn Hermansdorfer;and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Randy Osburn. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
Four grandsons will serve as pallbearers along with a great-grandson, Anthony Hall, and his stepfather, Eric Lambert.

David Lee Caudill - 1955-2009
David Lee Caudill, 53, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday evening in Community Hospice Care Center following an extended illness.
David was born Dec. 19, 1955, in New Martinsville, W.Va., a son of Paul and Erma Baldwin Caudill of Ashland.
He was employed with the AK Steel maintenance department and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are five sisters, Linda and husband Tom Gordon of Salem, Ill., Paula Tackett, Debbie and husband Roger Rigsby, Mary Jane and husband Bill Kiser and Karen and husband Keith Sparks, all of Ashland; and his previous wives, Sammi Robinson Caudill and Kathy Hermansdorfer.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Retha Mullins Kiser - 1910-2009
Retha Mullins Kiser, 98, of Sparks Avenue, Olive Hill, Ky., passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Kiser was born Nov. 28, 1910, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Arthur and Hester Dehart Mullins.
Retha was a Christian, a member of the First Christian Church in Olive Hill for more than 75 years and former owner of Federated Department Store and Kiser’s Style Shop in Olive Hill for 26 years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, State Sen. Bert Kiser, on Dec. 19, 1971; three brothers, A.E. Mullins, John Mullins and Mark Mullins; and a sister, Georgia Mullins.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J.D. and Joyce Kiser of Ashland, Ky.; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Dr. Lonnie Howerton of Louisville; a brother and four sisters-in-law, Carl and Effie Mullins, Faye Crawford, Bill Mullins and Barbara Boggs, all of Olive Hill; five grandchildren, Scott Kiser of Ashland, Dr. Chris Howerton of Louisville, Ky., Leigh Ann Patterson of Jackson, Miss., Julia Johnson of Louisville and Carla Moor of Jackson; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill with Brother Jonathon Lewis and Brother David Gee officiating. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Charles Cooksey - 1936-2009
Charles Cooksey, 73, of Grayson, Ky., formerly of Webbville, Ky., passed away Nov. 10, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born July 26, 1936, in Ashland, the son of the late Mortimer and Annis Edwards Cooksey. He was also preceded in death by Michael Williams and Betty Cooksey.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Trophy-Hunters archery club.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Cooksey; three sons, Charles Arthur Cooksey and John and wife Michelle Cooksey, both of Grayson, and Paul Alex Cooksey of Defiance, Ohio; six daughters, Jackie and husband Bobby Seagraves of Grayson, Kathy Marie and husband Howard Hall of Webbville, Ky., Cheryl Ann Ramey of Hotgate, Ohio, Barbara Cooksey and husband Guy Lawson of Oakwood, Ohio, Connie and husband Terry Burkhart of Defiance and Elizabeth Lynn and Donnie Jarrell of Paulding, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; a brother, Tommy West of Ashland, Ky.; and two sisters, Bertie Bowen and Jenny Bales of Dunkirk, Ind.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, Ky., by Brother Gary Sparks. Burial will be in Gallion Cemetery.

Patsy Shannon Wright - 1923-2009
Patsy Shannon Wright went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009.
Ms. Wright was born June 12, 1923, in Gallup, Ky.
She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Myrtle Jane Shannon. Her husband, Homer Wright Jr., her daughter, Andrea Christian Tiller, and her son, Homer Wright III, preceded her in death.
Ms. Wright was a member of First Baptist Church in Louisa, a graduate of Morehead State University and a teacher at Thompson Elementary in Mill Creek, W.Va. She retired from Louisa Elementary School after 20 years of service.
Ms. Wright is survived by her daughter, Rebecca See; her son-in-law, Garred G. See; her daughter-in-law, Brenda New Wright; her grandchildren, Garred G. See II (Danielle), James A. See (Lisa), Jason H. Wright, Joshua M. Wright, Monica Tiller and Rebecca Dawn Tiller; great-grandchildren Savannah and Tyler See and Karighan Wright; sisters-in-law Adrienne Lewis, Barbara Lakin Wright and Ann O. Shannon; brothers-in-law Clay B. Snedegar and Herbert Ball; and a very special niece, Sibyl Meece.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Jones and Chris Haynes. Pallbearers will be Garred See II, James See, Jason Wright, Joshua Wright, Clay Snedegar, Michael Snedegar, Donald Halcomb and Bryan Halcomb.

David Horner - 1948-2009
David Horner, 61, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Ironton, Ohio, native was born June 7, 1948, the son of the late Charles and Christine Fraley Horner.
Mr. Horner was a graduate of Green High School, a member of the American Legion and of the Baptist faith. David was a Purple Heart recipient during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a brother, Homer Horner; and four sisters, Cora Horn, Betty Horner, Christine Horner and Bertha Brown.
He is survived by a daughter, Jeanette Horner of Ironton; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jerry and Edna Horner, Clarence and Julia Horner, Paul Horner and Charles Horner Jr., all of Ironton; and a sister, Thelma Munion of Ironton.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton by Brother Gary Arthurs. Burial will be in Haverhill Cemetery.

Mary Louise Bartram - 1915-2009
Mary Louise Bartram, 94, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Ashland, Ky., and Williamson, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Madison Park, Huntington.
She was born May 27, 1915, in Bluefield, W.Va., a daughter of the late Alphonse and Josephine Obert Eckstein. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Bartram; a daughter, Margaret Lynn Bartram; a daughter-in-law, Marion Bartram; a sister, Margie Rohrkemper; and two brothers, Richard Eckstein and Bert Eckstein.
Mary was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland.
Survivors include a daughter, Christine Bartram Maniskas of Huntington; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Bartram of Lawton, Okla., and Steven and Julie Bartram of Huntington; eight grandchildren, Kevin Bartram and his wife, Peggy, of Antioch, Calif., Kimberly Beckman and her husband, Darrell, of Lawton, Gretchen Bartram Harrod and her husband, Neal, of Lexington, Ky., Michael Maniskas of Lexington, Stephen Maniskas of Huntington, Hannah Bartram of Lexington and Emily Bartram and Laura Bartram, both of Huntington; three great-grandchildren, Anne Bartram of Antioch and Jonathan Beckman and Danielle Beckman, both of Lawton; three sisters, Cecelia Gallaher of Washington, D.C., Pauline Appledorn of Ashland and Dorothy Goodman of Portsmouth, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Ruth Eckstein of Portsmouth; and sisters-in-law Edna Eckstein of Louisville, Ky., and Mary Elizabeth Bartram of Huntington.
