Jack A. Williams Sr.

Jack A. Williams Sr., 73, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, in Kobacker House in Columbus.

As a clerk at A&P;, he was rapidly promoted to advertising manager in Columbus and was owner of Williams Communications for more than 25 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; sons Roger and Timothy; two brothers; and a sister.

Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley; a son, Jack Jr.; a daughter, Kathy; grandchildren John, Nicole, Angel, Kristi and Amy; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was chairman of both the state and metro Columbus Baptist Association, head deacon at Salem Baptist Church for more than 25 years and a member of the Printing Industry Association. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Salem Baptist Church, 5862 Sinclair Road, Columbus, OH 43229 by Pastor Terry Jesse. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High St., Worthington, OH 43085.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Catlettsburg, Ky.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salem Baptist Church.

Bobby Gene Lucas (1940-2009)

Bobby Gene Lucas, 69, of Wurtland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Nov. 16, 2009, in SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Bobby was born March 15, 1940, in Dehu, W.Va., to the late Roma Lucas and Audrey May Lucas Keeton. He graduated from Wurtland High School in 1957 and Morehead State University in 1962. Bobby enjoyed careers as a teacher and insurance agent. His favorite pasttimes were gardening and golf.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kay Chinn Lucas; his children and their spouses, Lori and Tom Adams of St. Cloud, Fla., Lynda and Charles Ison of Lexington, Ky., David and Keri Lucas of Ashland, Ky., and Heather and Jesse Stout of Greenup, Ky.; his grandchildren, Chad Spence, Amanda Spence, Katherine Ison and Anna Ison; his brother and his wife, Ronald and Jean Lucas; his brother-in-law and his wife, Donald and Connie Chinn; his nephew and his wife, Michael and Rebecca Lucas; his niece and her husband, Angela and David Mercedes; his nieces, Kendra Mason and Brittney Chinn; his grandniece and her husband, Chandra and Andrew Sale; his grandnephew and grandniece, Aaron Lucas and Monica Mason; and a granddaughter he was to meet in April.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Pastor Scott Hill and Assistant Pastor David Seals. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.



Aline Stevens Bentley (1921-2009)

Aline Stevens Bentley, 88, of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, Ky., passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was born March 8, 1921, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Drew and Ollie Burton Stevens.

Mrs. Bentley was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She was a Christian and a member of the Church of Christ in South Point.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Victor Bentley; a son, Andrew Bentley; two daughters, Loretta Bentley and Vickie Bentley; three brothers, Phillip Stevens, Billy Stevens and Derse Stevens; and five sisters, Corene Miller, Dorthy Hunter, Stella Dixon, Betty Oney and Ruth Stevens.

Her survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, Owen and Helen Ingram and Charles and Patricia Bentley, all of Ashland, Jesse Ray and Debra Bentley of Ironton, Ohio, Bobby and Cris Bentley of Kitts Hill, Ohio, and Roy Bentley and Troy and Debra Bentley, all of Coal Grove, Ohio; five daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Wilson of Ashland, Ollie and Glen Church of Coal Grove, Cathy and Gene Church and Betty and David Reffitt, all of South Point, and Lora and Ed Anson of Ironton; 31 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother Michael Trevett. Burial will be in Bentley Cemetery on Carter Caves Road in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, Nov. 17, 2009, and until services Wednesday at the funeral home.

David Allen Reffitt, Ed Anson, Mark Strickland, Chris Arthur, Keith Wilson and John Artrip will serve as pallbearers.

Devin Wayne Campbell (1988-2009)

Devin Wayne Campbell, 21, of Lexington, Ky., died Saturday morning in an auto accident on I-64 in Rowan County.

He was born Jan. 30, 1988, in Ashland, Ky., a son of Kevin Campbell of Grayson and Trenna Lewis Campbell of Lexington.

He was a student at Penn Foster Vocational School.

He is survived by his maternal grandparent, Augusta Lewis of Grayson; his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Betty Claxon of Greenup, Ky.; his paternal great-grandmother, Marie Harris of Grayson, Ky.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers Emerson Lewis and Gary Campbell; his grandmother, Lorraine Campbell; and an uncle, John Blevins.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Oney, Don Campbell, Blake Campbell, Chuckie Lewis, Scott Miller and Chad Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Darren Campbell and Greg Campbell.

There will be a joint visitation and funeral with his uncle, Johnny Blevins, on at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Tony Daniels and Danny Kelley. Burial will be in the family cemetery on Smith Branch.

Johnny Burton Blevins (1952-2009)

Johnny Burton Blevins, 57, of Grayson died Saturday morning in an automobile accident on I-64 in Rowan County.

He was born May 13, 1952, at Beetle, Ky., a son of the late William Curtis and Bertha Marie Carroll Blevins.

He was general superintendent for Capitol Tunneling for 39 years, a member of Laborers Local 1445 in Catlettsburg, Ky., and of the Baptist faith. Johnny was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Lewis Blevins of Grayson, Ky.; three daughters, Kendra (Tommy) Murphy, Trish (Richard) Mullins and Teena (Larry) Porter; two sisters, Zethel Gentry and Juanita Ferguson; four brothers, Clifford Blevins, Curtis Blevins, Larry “Tom” Blevins and James “Ernest” Blevins; eight grandchildren, Peyton, Hayden, Madison, and Sydney Murphy, Haley and Katlyn Mullins and Dollee and Tamara Porter; a special mother-in-law, Augusta Lewis; many nieces and nephews; and a special uncle and aunt, Bert and Lillian Blevins.

He was preceded in death by two special nephews, Brian Blevins and Devin Campbell; his father and mother, William Curtis and Bertha Carroll Blevins; three sisters, Ethel Knipp, Cloral Henry and Linda Cummings; and three brothers, Wayne, Jesse and Oral Ray Blevins.

There will be a joint visitation and funeral with his nephew, Devin Campbell, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Danny Kelley and Ed Jones. Burial will be in Blevins Family Cemetery on Smith Branch.

Rodney Dale Baker (1956-2009)

Rodney Dale Baker, 53, of Olive Hill, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Aug. 26, 1956, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late Jack E. Baker and the late Martha Lou Justice Baker Morgan.

Mr. Baker was vice president and co-owner of Tri-State Occupational Medicine Inc. of Huntington, W.Va. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Olive Hill.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thurman and Ada Baker, and his maternal grandparents, Roye and Mary Opal (Doie) Justice.

His survivors include his wife of 25 years, Lynn Robinson Baker; a son, Evan Roy Dale Baker of Olive Hill; two daughters, Erica D. Rayburn and husband Darby Joe of Lexington, Ky., and Emily D. Baker of Olive Hill; a brother, Dr. Randall Baker and wife Connie of Olive Hill; a sister, Robin L. Mauk and husband Jeff of Ashland, Ky.; his stepfather, Dr. Ballard Morgan Jr. of Lexington; and a first cousin, Diane Blankenship of Ashland. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Brother Mark Lilly and Brother Mike Blankenship. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today, Nov. 17, 2009, and until time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Delbert “Shorty” Sargent, 81, of Ashland, died Monday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

His wife, Helen D. Sargent, preceded him in death.

Ella Fern Gillespie Dennis, 76, of Ashland, died Saturday in Friendly’s Nursing Home in Germantown, Ohio.

Leonard Ray McKenzie, 82, of Ashland, died Monday in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born April 23, 1927, in Boyd County.

His wife, Gloria Blankenship McKenzie, preceded him in death.
