Betty Lou Hall Buckley

Betty Lou Hall Buckley, 60, of Ashland, Ky., died Nov. 14, 2009, in Blanton House in Grove City, Ohio.

She was a member of Bridges Christian Church, the Ashland Retirees Group and OES. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jenny Hall.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Christy and John Metcalf of Grove City; granddaughters Lindsay and Ella; a sister, Billie Rae Hall of Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Bridges Christian Church, 1402 Kenwood Drive, Russell by the Rev. Joe Talley. The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at The Church Ogle Cemetery in Louisa, Ky.

Arrangements are by Graumlich Funeral Home, 1351 S. High St., Columbus, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Roberta Fraley Tipton (1941-2009)

Roberta Fraley Tipton, 68, of Ashland, Ky., wife of Gennis Tipton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center following a short illness.

Roberta was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Raymond L. and Sarah Tackett Fraley.

She was a member of South Ashland United Methodist Church and an Ashland area real estate agent for the past 30 years.

Roberta loved life, and those who knew her loved her as much as she loved them. She was the first president of the Ashland Elks Auxiliary, loved to travel and served as chaperone for 17 consecutive years on the Ashland School Patrol trip to Washington, D.C.

Roberta was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a brother, Raymond L. Fraley; and two sisters, Betty Jo Jarvis and Brenda Howard.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Jeffrey Tipton and wife Christina of Lexington, Ky.; a grandson, Jeffrey Tipton II; and a sister, Kitty Kouns of Ashland.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Lance Campbell and Brother Boyd Tipton. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Vernon Leroy Stewart (1932-2009)

Vernon Leroy Stewart of Savannah, Ga., formerly of Ashland, Ky., died Nov. 16, 2009, in Savannah following a long illness.

He was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Denton, Ky., a son of Herbert Sergent and Herma Stewart.

He was a retired truck driver and former owner of Stewart’s Market and Service Station in Summit. He was an elder at Princess Church of Christ and several other Christian churches in the Ashland area.

He was a Kentucky colonel and a constant visitor to the sick and shut-in. He loved horses and sailing with his brother-in-law, Howard Smith. His personal mission in life was to tell others about Jesus Christ. He believed in finding a cure for Alzheimer’s, which affected his wife. In his later years, he was a tireless fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association and was instrumental in making the Savannah chapter the leading donor in the state of Georgia. After coming to Savannah, he became a vital part of his daughter’s Avon Team of almost 400 representatives and more than 300 customers, sharing his wisdom with all the importance of building relationships and providing excellent customer service. This was a true asset to her national business.

He is survived by his wife, Eula Jean Moore Stewart of Savannah; a daughter, Margie Stewart Robichaux of Savannah; two grandchildren, Tony and Casey Robichaux; three half brothers, Charles Kozee of Chillicothe, Ohio, Darrell Pinkerton of Waverly, Ohio, and Don Sergent of Grayson, Ky.; and a half sister, Rose Kidder of West Union, Ohio.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Henry Glancy, minister. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Verna Mae Stanley (1924-2009)

Verna Mae Stanley, 85, of Grayson, was graciously taken home by her Lord, Nov.17, 2009, in Carter Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.

She was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Greenup County, Ky., a daughter of the late Ray Roscoe Riffe and Maggie Gillispie Riffe.

Mrs. Stanley was a lifelong member of Wilson Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Cinderella Fashions in Ashland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Stanley, in 1992; a brother, Ray Riffe Jr.; and a sister, Parthea Shaffer.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Lynn (Gypsie) Stanley of Louisville, Ky., and Randell Ray (Lynn) Stanley of Grayson; a daughter, Dottie (Richard) Easterling of Grayson; and five sisters, Irene Conley of Leesburg, Fla., Myrtle Smith of Ashland, Mabyn Hopkins of Ashland, Jeany Angel of Ashland and Dorothy Prichard of Grayson. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren, Jeffrey Lynn Stanley II, Shayne Easterling, Crystal Schrecker-Jones, Julianne Sanders and Abigail Stanley.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Wilson Creek Baptist Church by Jim Varney and Jo Ed Rice. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Ethel Maurine Williams, 91, of died Wednesday in Kingsbrook Life Care Center.

She was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Mayfield.

Her husband, Gale F. Williams, preceded her in death.

Jessie Belle Adams Barker, 84, of Ashland, died Wednesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

She was born April 12, 1925, in Ashland.

Her husband, Ralph Barker Sr., preceded her in death.

Virgil Dale Hunt, 65, of Greenup, died Tuesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

He was born Aug. 16, 1944, in Greenup County.

Roy Bryant (1925-2009)

Roy Elliott Bryant, 84, of Olive Hill, died Tuesday at his residence.

He was born June 4, 1925, in Carter County.

His wife, Genevene Easterling Bryant, survives.
