Doris Ward VanHoose

Mrs. Doris Ward VanHoose, age 84, of Franklin, Tenn., passed away Dec. 5, 2009.

She was born in Tutor Key, Ky., and was a retired corporate bookkeeper with Ashland Finance Co.

She was a long-time member of Republican Women of Williamson County.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Otto VanHoose; parents, Walter and Effie Ward; brothers, Willard and Walter Ward; sisters, Emma Ward and Louise Phillips; and son-in-law, Richard A. Meyers.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda V. Meyers of Franklin; brother, Paul Ward of Ashland, Ky.; sister, Frances Esenbock of Franklin; grandchildren, Andrea (Andrew) Stoffregen of Thompson Station, Tenn., and Amy (Garth) Gobbell of Murfreesboro, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Miranda Stoffregen, Carolyn Gobbell and Hunter Gobbell; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin by Pastor Rick White officiating.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Esenbock, A.G. Phillips, Reggie Churchwell, Jack Jezwinski, Andrew Stoffregen and Don Tucker. Honorary pallbearer will be Garth Gobbell.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thomas Delbert “Tommy” Barker (1918-2009)

Thomas Delbert “Tommy” Barker, age 91, of Olive Hill, Ky., passed away, Saturday evening, Dec. 5, 2009, at his residence in Olive Hill.

Mr. Barker was born Sept.16, 1918, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late James Corb and Bessie King Barker.

Tommy was retired from General Motors in Indiana, where he worked as a machinist. He was a member of the Bowen Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Ester Craig Barker and Ruth Spurlington Barker; three brothers; Gobel Barker, Clarence Barker and Ernest Barker; and three sisters; Vernie Porter, Lima Justice and Gladys Hutsell.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Murle Patrick Ervin Barker; two brothers; Arlen Barker of New Castle, Ind., and Ercel Barker of Indianapolis, Ind.; and one sister, Peggy Holt of Mansfield, Ohio. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Clyde Holbrook and Brother Dale Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ronnie Barker, Randy Barker, Hugh Justice, Carl Porter, Woody Porter and Talmadge Rayburn will serve as pallbearers. Rick Spence, Tyler Spence, Ernest Jordan and Tommy McCoy will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Ronald Duncan (1952-2009)

Ronald Duncan, 56, of Grayson, Ky., went to be with his Lord on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Dec. 31, 1952, in Logan, W.Va., a son of the late Lloyd Duncan and Essie Greene Duncan Houck. He was a retired boiler maker with Local 105 of Piketon, Ohio, and was a member of the Grayson V.F.W.

Ron accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 3, 2009.

His survivors include one son, Derek Duncan of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Phyllis (Eugene) Gollihue of Ashland and Carolyn (Walter) Wilcox of Grayson and two brothers, Harold (Rella) Duncan of Grayson and Jack (Janet) Duncan of Flatwoods, Ky.

A service of remembrance will be at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Walter Wilcox, officiating.

Susan Gannon (1953-2009)

Susan Lee Gannon, 56, of Powder Springs, Ga., formerly of Ashland, died Monday at home.

Marie Sartin

Marie Daniels Sartin, 82, of Hebo, Ore., formerly of Ashland and Bloomfield, died Dec. 4.

Her husbands, David Allen Hunt and Herbert Lee Sartin, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Marvin Sparks Cemetery in Paintsville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Michael “Coco” Polakovs (1923-2009)

Michael “Coco” Polakovs, 86, of Catlettsburg, died Sunday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Riga, Latvia.

His wife, Hazel Fannin Polakovs, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park with Masonic rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the Friday at the funeral home.

Cecil “Woody” Wilson

Cecil “Woody” Wilson, 87, of Wurtland, died Monday at home.

Betty Lowe (1931-2009)

Betty Ruth James Lowe, 78, of Grahn, died Saturday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

She was born Nov. 27, 1931, in Carter County.

Her husband, Carmel Lowe, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Lowe Cemetery in Olive Hill.
