Kay J. “Jody” Simpson
Kay J. “Jody” Simpson of West Monroe, La., formerly of Ashland, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, in Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Monroe. She was an administrative assistant with Care Solutions and a volunteer with Angel Ministries, where she worked diligently for autism awareness and the new research with bariatric chambers. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Pauline Blackburn, and a brother, Paul Blackburn.
Survivors include her sons, Craig Simpson and wife Heather and Jay Simpson and wife Angela; six grandchildren, Tyler, Keeley, Maggie, Oakley, Chandler and Victoria Simpson; two sisters, Rosemary Hale and Elizabeth “Cricket” Hensel; a brother, Henry Blackburn; her mother-in-law, Edna Simpson; her sister-in-law, Cathy Blackburn; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Feazel Chapel of First Baptist Church in West Monroe by the Rev. Mark Fenn. Interment will be in Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens in West Monroe under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jason Nelson, Tyler Simpson, Drexel Simpson, James Monk, Jason Howell and Adam Wilbanks.

Donald Lee VanHoose (1934-2009)
Donald Lee VanHoose, 75, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington.
Mr. VanHoose was born June 19, 1934 at Catlettsburg, Ky., a son of the late Virgil and Mary Stevens VanHoose.
Mr. VanHoose was a retired master electrician with Timkins Roller Bearings Co. and a member of Teamsters Local 231. He proudly served our country during the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He attended Catlettsburg High School and Boyd County Vocational School and enjoyed playing the guitar and rebuilding small motors.
Donald is survived by sons William “Bill” VanHoose and his wife, Kathy, of Columbus, Donald VanHoose and his wife, Leanna, of Powell, Ohio, Daniel VanHoose of Columbus, Jason VanHoose of Whitehall, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Angie VanHoose of Columbus; a sister, Mollie Sue VanHoose of Ashland; a brother-in-law, Joe Oliver Maynard of Ashland; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jason VanHoose, and a sister, Mary Jo Maynard.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Morton Fetters (1917-2009)
Morton Glenn “Papaw” Fetters, 92, of South Shore, died Tuesday in South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Greenup County, a son of the late James and Mary Fetters. He was the husband of Thelma Jane Watkins Fetters, who passed away in 1992.
The World War II U.S. Army veteran was a retired employee of the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. and a member of Moose Lodge 762 of Portsmouth.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Fetters and Ellis Fetters, and two sisters, Norma Reed and Ethel Vansickle.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Wayne and Vernice Stevens of South Shore; a daughter, Dallas Helen Stevens Riggs of Lloyd; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Terry Boehm of Palmer, Alaska; two nieces, Beulah Mae DeFoe and Alieen Howell; and nephews William Vansickle, John David Vansickle and Paul Ray Vansickle.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore by Gary Howell, minister. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Rhonda Wolfe (1959-2009)
Rhonda Marie Wolfe, 50, of Kenova, W.Va., died Tuesday at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
She was born July 3, 1959, in Greenup County.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg

Frances Boggs (1931-2009)
Frances Irene Boggs, 78, of South Shore, died Wednesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born June 8, 1931, in Carter County.
Her husband, Edwin Hugh Boggs, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Phillip McKenzie
Phillip Gregory McKenzie, 42, of West Liberty, has died.
His wife, Leatha Manley McKenzie, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Herald & Stewart & Halsey Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be in Paris Ferguson Cemetery in West Liberty.
William Bush
William Bush, 71, of Frenchburg, died Tuesday at his residence.
His wife, Elizabeth Bush, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at Means Community Miracle Church. Burial will be in Fortune Cemetery in Mount Sterling.

Lawrence Pennington (1937-2009)
Lawrence W. Pennington, 72, of Pedro, died Tuesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born March 13, 1937, in Lawrence County.
His wife, Carol Jean Mart Pennington, survives.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Slabfork Cemetery in Pedro.
