Marie O’Brien McNeely (1920-2009)
Marie O’Brien McNeely, 89, of Ashland, Ky., went to be with her Lord on Dec. 25, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was born June 8, 1920, in Lawrence County, Ky., to the late George and Laura Murphy Taylor.
She was of the Baptist faith, a former head cook at Delbarton Grade School for 10 years and a nursing assistant for 17 years at the King’s Daughters and Sons Home for Assisted Living in Ashland, Ky., where she resided for five years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Enoch F. O‘Brien; her second husband, Ballard McNeely; a son-in-law, Ronnie Evans; a brother, John Caudill; and three sisters, Alberta Gollihue, Ruth Johnson and Martha Rice.
Surviving are two sons, Murrie Lee and wife Dempsey O’Brien of Denton, Ky. and Enoch N. and wife Donna O’Brien of Catlettsburg, Ky.; a daughter, Laura Jean Evans of Russell, Ky.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by minister Mike Rice. Burial will be in Robin Cemetery.

Carl Riggle Jr. (1927-2009)
Carl Henderson Riggle Jr., husband of Mary Riggle of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, following an extended illness.
Carl was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Ashland, to the late Carl and Lois Holmes Riggle Sr. Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired from Armco Steel as a brick mason. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union, Poage Lodge 325 F & AM, Ashland Elks Lodge BPOE, Ashland Bowling Hall of Fame and Ky. State Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a member of Ky. Baptist Builders helping build churches in depressed areas and was a Deacon at Pollard Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Riggle; and four sisters, Phyllis Hayner, Joan Riggle, Virginia Lee and Mary Lou Keffer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret Conley Riggle of Ashland; a son, Jeffrey Scott Riggle of Waverly, Ohio; a daughter, Marcia Harris and her husband Dan of Summerset, Ky.; a sister, Marlene Wheeler and her husband Butch of Springhill, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Chris Harris and Wade Riggle.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, by Pastor J.R. Hume at Pollard Baptist Church in Ashland. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Masonic services will be conducted at 6 p.m. today at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by members and officers of Poage Lodge 325 F & AM Ashland.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and an hour before the service Monday at the church.

John T. Cornette (1927-2009)
John T. Cornette, 82, of Ashland, husband of Clara Cornette, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Boyd County, Ky., to the late Morris K. and Arie May Seagraves Cornette.
John proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired lineman with Kentucky Power Company. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, a former member of Greenbo Archery Club and a former committee member of Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Gates.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Clara Offill Cornette of Ashland; two sons, George Cornette and his wife Un Sun of Enon, Ohio and Gary Matthew Cornette and his wife Teresa of Ashland; a daughter, Teresa Walters of Ashland; two brothers, Alan Cornette of Slade, Ky. and Gene Cornette of Shelby, N.C.; a sister, Arlene French of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren, John Cornette, Jason Cornette, Tracy Roessner, Shellie Louanglath, Adam Cornette and Ryan Cornette; six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Austin, Samantha, Nate, Jamie and Ethan; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Caniff Funeral Home by Matt Louanglath, Minister. Burial will follow in Hutchinson Cemetery.

Hazel Jordan Lyon (1919-2009)
Hazel Jordan Lyon, 90, died Dec. 22, 2009, in St. Augustine, Fla. She was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Ellen, Ky. to the late Arlie and Mirzie Estep Jordan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Philip Lyon in March of 2009, and four brothers and a sister.
She was a member of the First Nazarene Church of Ashland. She was a seamstress employed at the Cinderella Dress Factory and later owned her own sewing business.
Surviving are a son, Ronald H. Lyon and wife Claudia of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Doris R. Neider and husband Larry of St. Augustine, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Ward and husband Kermit of Lexington, Ky.; and three granddaughters, Bethany Adams of Jacksonville, Fla., Jennifer Adams of Manassas, Va. and Stacy Tucker and husband Kyle of Mooresville, N.C.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Reverend Richard “Butch” Kiger. Burial will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Darrell Fannin (1935-2009)
William Darrell Fannin, 74, of Catlettsburg, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 23, 2009, at his residence. He was the son of the late Jerry and Nora Burke Fannin. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Boyd County Road Department for nearly 30 years. He loved farming and was always a good neighbor.
Left behind is his loving wife of 53 years, Garnet Robinette Fannin; four daughters, Sherry Fannin, Kathy Castle and husband Darryl, all of Catlettsburg, Kimberly Fannin and fiancé Larry Poff of Huntington, W.Va. and Lydia Hall and husband Shannon of Ashland; brothers Jerry Jr., Oralee Fannin and Gene and Lilly Fannin, all of Rush, and a sister, Joyce and Steve Webb of Catlettsburg; seven grandchildren, Jason (Emily) Castle, Jodi (Jamie) McKenzie, Jerry Castle, Jonathan Childers, Amanda (Adam) Hardin, Zachary (Megan) Osborne and Hannah Sammons; and seven great-grandchildren, Devin Castle, Justin Castle, Jacob McKenzie, Jerade McKenzie, Hunter Dakota Hardin, Madison Michelle Osborne and Lane Wyatt Osborne.
A funeral service honoring Darrell Fannin will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Rocky Wallace will offer a message of comfort. Final rest will be at Robinette Cemetery on Whites Creek.

Danny Wayne Cox (1955-2009)
Danny Wayne Cox, 54, of Greenup, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. He was born May 13, 1955, in Junction City, Ky. to the late George Washington and Angeline Bentley Cox. He was a driver for the North East KY Community Action Agency for 32 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Hall and Joe Hall; and sisters, Pearlie Woods, Naida Cox and Carrie Satterly.
He is survived by sons, Jimmy Cox and Danny Michael Cox both of Greenup; a granddaughter, Kaitlin Edington; a grandson, Joshua Edington; a sister, Vickie Barnett Ewing; and very special friends, Michael and Kyla Ousley from Jamestown, Ohio.
Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Monday at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother Michael Ousley.

Eric Ronald “Ronnie” “Boo Boo” Baier (1946-2009)
Eric Ronald “Ronnie” “Boo Boo” Baier, 63, of Grayson, Ky., went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, Dec. 24, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born Feb. 22, 1946, in Carter County, Ky., a son of Susan Seagraves Baier and the late Howard Baier.
He worked for General Refractories for over 20 years and devoted his life to serving the Lord and preaching Gods word. He was a member of Rockwall United Baptist Church for 40 years. He enjoyed farming and woodworking. He loved animals and sharing his love of nature with his grandchildren. He was a loving father, husband and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Heath Randall Baier; and a sister, Saundra Baier.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruby Seagraves Baier; seven sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Donna Baier, Randall and Kim Baier, Scott and Lisa Baier, Paul and Kellie Baier and Matthew and Melissa Baier, all of Grayson, Bruce and Lynn Baier of Ashland and Brian and Lori Baier of Argillite, Ky.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa and Elwood Kitchen and Sharon Baier, all of Grayson, Ky.; 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved and who will miss their papaw very much; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Shirley Baier, Lewis and Bonnie Baier, Pierce and Trish Baier, all of Grayson, and James “Bud” and Ruthann Baier of Oldtown, Ky.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Gayle and Russell Sparks of Grayson, Patty and John Smith of Greenup, Evelyn Hall of Olive Hill, Ky., and Christy and Jack Young of Ashland; and he also leaves several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Rockwall United Baptist Church in Bruin, Ky. with Elders Eury Barker, Homer Bowling and Zora Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Baier Family Cemetery in Grayson.
Bart Kitchen, Travis Baier, Rob Baier, Ryan Kitchen, Johnathan Baier, Craig Baier, Justin Buck, Elwood Kitchen and Mike Reynolds will serve as pallbearers.

Ariyan Leonard Keith Miller
Ariyan Leonard Keith Miller, 62, of Sheridan, Ohio, passed away Dec. 22, 2009, at his home.
After 35 years of service, he retired from Mack & Dave’s of Huntington, W.Va., where he had dozens of devoted friends. He was a well known local artist and renowned motorcycle expert.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; three children, Tristyn, Kayla and Rhayne; a grandson, Christopher; a brother, Roger Miller; and hundreds of beloved friends, including Ron Houchin, Jeff Willis, Shawn Taylor, Shayne Barker and Michael Adkins.
Throughout his life, Ariyan completed hundreds of oil paintings, ink drawings, book and magazine covers, wall murals and rebuilt scores of antique Triumph, BSA, Norton and other British motorcycles. To those who knew him, the world will be bereft of his intelligence, wit, charm, understanding and individuality.
There will be no graveside services. There will be a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.
