Kenneth Michael Thomas Sr. (1959-2009)

Kenneth Michael Thomas Sr., 50, of Ashland, Ky., husband of Francine Stone Thomas, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center following a short illness.

He was born in Ashland, March 30, 1959, to the late James Delmar and Elizabeth Bentley Thomas.

Kenny was formerly employed by King’s Daughters Medical Center and the Boyd County School Distrcit. He was a Kentucky colonel, Santa Claus in Ashland for the past 32 years and coached in the Boyd County National Little League and the YMCA League. He was a member of the Summit-Ironville and Cannonsburg volunteer fire departments and a proud Boyd County Band Parent.

In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Eugene Thomas Sr. and Larry Edward Thomas; and a sister, Hattie Thomas.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Kenneth Michael Thomas Jr. (Jessica), Shaun David Thomas and Justin Dale Thomas, all of Ashland; a daughter, Kayla Dawn Mullins (Jason) of Ashland; a granddaughter, Hannah Rose Mullins; five brothers, James Franklin Thomas (Louann) of Ironton, Ohio, Albert Nathan Thomas (Ann) of Huntington, W.Va., Richard B. Thomas (Sharon) of Ashland, Ernie Lee Thomas (Marie) of Ashland, Calvin Ray Thomas (Bonnie) of Huntington and Lanny Joe Thomas Sr. (Dora) of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Madeline C. Mullins (Percy) of Ashland and Sheila Branham (Joe) of Ashland; his mother-in-law, Frances Leibee; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Brother Dale Henson and Brother Sheldon Wheeler. Burial will be in Coalton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Darrell Fannin (1935-2009)

William Darrell Fannin, 74, of Catlettsburg, passed away at his residence Wednesday evening, Dec. 23, 2009.

He was the son of the late Jerry and Nora Burke Fannin. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Robert Fannin.

Darrell was a heavy-equipment operator for the Boyd County Road Department for nearly 30 years. He loved farming and was always a good neighbor.

Left behind are his loving wife of 53 years, Garnet Robinette Fannin; four daughters, Sherry Fannin and Kathy and husband Darryl Castle, all of Catlettsburg, Kimberly Fannin and fiancé Larry Poff of Huntington, W.Va., and Lydia and husband Shannon Hall of Ashland, Ky.; brothers Jerry Jr. and Oralee Fannin of Rush, Ky., and Gene and Lilly Fannin, also of Rush; a sister, Joyce and husband Steve Webb of Catlettsburg; seven grandchildren, Jason (Emily) Castle, Jodi (Jamie) McKenzie, Jerry Castle, Jonathan (Christy) Childers, Amanda (Adam) Hardin, Zachary (Megan) Osborne and Hannah Sammons; and seven great-grandchildren, Devin Castle, Justin Castle, Jacob McKenzie, Jerade McKenzie, Hunter Dakota Hardin, Madison Michelle Osborne and Lane Wyatt Osborne.

A funeral service honoring Darrell Fannin will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Rocky Wallace will offer a message of comfort. Final rest will be in Robinette Cemetery on Whites Creek.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Goldie Phillips Sturgill (1927-2009)

Goldie Phillips Sturgill, 82, of Grahn, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, Dec. 26, 2009, at her residence.

She was born March 30, 1927, in Carter County, Ky., to the late Earl and Mary Smitson Phillips.

She was a retired store clerk. In 1971 she became a member of Kiser Branch Old Regular Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ernestine Blevins and Leah Ann Wilburn; and a daughter-in-law, Alice Hedge Sturgill.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Burl Eugene Sturgill; two sons, David Sturgill of Olive Hill, Ky., and Lonnie Earl and Phyllis Sturgill of Grahn; a daughter, Charlotte Gilliam of Grahn; five grandchildren, Tammy Jo Gilliam, Dwight David Sturgill, Wes Gilliam, Tim Sturgill and LaLona Hall; four great-grandchildren, Courtenay Sturgill, Caitlyn Sturgill, Caleb Sturgill and Kylie Gilliam; a sister, Carolyn Duncan of Grahn; and nieces, nephews, church family and other friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill by Elders Ola Tackett, Hershel Slone and Tennis Sturgell. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, Dec. 28, 2009, and until services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dwight Sturgill, Tim Sturgill, Wes Gilliam, Chris Hall, Bryan Duncan and Kevyn Duncan will serve as pallbearers.

Betty Sue Houck (1931-2009)

Betty Sue Houck, 78, of Ashland, died Friday in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland.

She was born June 20, 1931. Her husband, James Elwood Houck, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at noon Wednesday at Rose Hill Mausoleum. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mausoleum.

Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Karen Bowling Prichard (1944-2009)

Karen Bowling Prichard, 65, of Catlettsburg, died Saturday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.

She was born April 24, 1944.

The funeral will be at at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will be in Pine Haven Cemetery on Bolts Fork at Rush.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Autie Ray Adkins

Autie Ray Adkins, 69, of Greenup, died Saturday at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore.



Juanita Colegrove

Juanita Colegrove, 84, of Grayson, died Sunday in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson.



Eugene Stanley Butcher

Eugene Stanley Butcher, 79, of Pikeville, died Thursday in the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

His wife, Betty Butcher, survives.

The funeral will be at at 1 p.m. today at Thacker Funeral Home in Pikeville.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.



Poshia Thompson

Poshia Thompson, 85, of Pikeville, died Friday in Signature Health Care.

Her husband, Palmer Thompson, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Thacker Funeral Home in Pikeville.

Burial will be in Burnette Cemetery on Coon Creek.



Rodney Dale Gordon (1934-2009)

Rodney Dale Gordon, 75, of Morehead, died Saturday at his residence.

He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Nampa, Idaho.

His wife, Erika S. Gordon, survives.

The funeral will be at at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery, with military rites by Morehead American Legion Post 126.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Morehead Masonic Lodge 654 will have a service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to a charity of choice.



Lenora Jo Compton (1932-2009)

Lenora Jo Compton, 77, of Weston, died Saturday in Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

She was born June 8, 1932. Her husband, Nick Compton, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Ky. Burial will be in Compton Cemetery in Louisa.

Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
