Lesia Crisp - 1961-2009
Lesia Irene Crisp-Robert, 48, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday Dec. 30, 2009, at her parents’ home in Blaine after an extended illness.
Lesia was born March 31, 1961 in Delaware, Ohio, a daughter of James and Maggie Sparks Robinson. She attended Boyd County High School and ACTC, where she received a degree as a licensed practical nurse. She was employed at the VA Hospital in Huntington for eight years and was of the Baptist faith. Lesia’s beautiful smile and caring spirit will be forever missed by all who knew her.
Surviving family members include fiancé John Robert of Ashland; a son, Christopher Scott Campbell of Lakeworth, Fla.; three sisters, Patricia (Greg) Greer of Fallsburg, Carol (Bobby) Ramey of Blaine and Paula Osborne of Blaine; a brother Roger (Jill) Robinson of Blaine; 13 nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.
A funeral service for Lesia Crisp will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Ed Austin will offer a comforting message. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mary Yates - 1932-2009
Mary M. Yates, 77, of Balm, Fla., formerly of Ashland, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, in Sun City Center in Florida.
Mrs. Yates was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Catlettsburg, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Myrtle Ball Jarrell. She was a homemaker and a former foster parent.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James N. Yates Sr.; three children, Jimmy Yates of Brandon, Fla., Marcia Forrest (Chuck) of Ashland and Debbie Ratliff (Brian) of Brandon; a brother, Jim Jarrell of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Yates; three brothers, Tom Jarrell, Grover Jarrell and Eugene Jarrell; and a sister, Sarah McClanahan.
A funeral service for Mary Yates was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Stowers Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Tim Meyers gave a message of comforting words. Final rest is in Hopewell Memorial Gardens in Plant City, Fla.

Eva Mae Kiser - 1916-2009
Eva Mae Kazee Kersey Kiser, 93, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Oct. 1, 1916, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Noah and Katie Brown Kazee. She was a retired cook for the Ashland Independent School District at Putnam Junior High School, the Ashland TB Hospital and a hospital in Florida. She was a lifetime member of Moore Street Tabernacle. Her lifelong passion was cooking and baking for her family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her husbands, James E. Kersey Sr. and John Kiser; and six brothers, Bennie Kazee, Elmer Kazee, Harry Kazee, Noah Kazee Jr., Albert Kazee and Charles Kazee.
Survivors include two sons, James E. Kersey Jr. and his wife, Lanna, and William M. Kersey and his wife, Sally, all of Ashland; a stepdaughter, Betty Moon of Ashland; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Dale Maddy. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Robert Nance - 1923-2009
Robert Nance, 86, of Flatwoods, passed away Dec. 28, 2009.
He was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Ariton, Ala., the son of the late Harmon and Junior Nance. He is retired from Publix Supermarket. Following his retirement, he owned several restaurants. He was a Master Mason of Holyrood Lodge 257 in Tampa, Fla., for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Shrine and the Cattlemen’s Association.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Roy Nance.
Survivors include his wife, Natalie Nance; a daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Jerry King; a grandson and his wife, Jerry and Jamie King; a granddaughter and her husband, Christine and Chris Dawson; a sister and brother-in-law, Mattie and Charlie Casper; a brother and sister-in-law, Toliver and Mattie Nance; great-grandchildren Victoria, Anthony and Brendan Dawson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Ross Chapel Church on Bolts Fork in Rush.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Humane Society.
Edna Mae Allen - 1935-2009
Edna Mae Allen, 74, of Greenup, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Oct. 20, 1935, at Warnock, a daughter of the late Bunyon and Lula Derossett Coburn. She was the wife of Andrew Allen, who survives. She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Bunyon Allen, who passed away in 1983.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Rita Mae Thornton of Greenup; three sisters, Mary Amos and Julia Brush, both of Ada, Ohio, and Ruby Inman of Greenville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Shanda (Shawn) Litteral, Andrea (Dustin) Neace, Andrew Thornton and Jennifer Allen; and five great-grandchildren, Alexandria Neace, Josh Neace, Zachary Litteral, Michael Litteral and Christopher Brown.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother Chester Allen and Brother Jeff Allen.
Burial will be in Hall-Smith Cemetery at Warnock.
Visitation will be an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
Vernon Williams - 1945-2009
Vernon Williams, 63, of Westwood, died Thursday.

Dennis Ray Trent - 1939-2009
Dennis Ray Trent, 70, of Morehead, died Wednesday in the UK Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.
He was born July 21, 1939.
His wife, Barbara Jean Bowling Trent, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Trent Cemetery.
