LLOYD —
James Monroe “Jim“ Bryant, 73, of Lloyd, went to be with the Lord with his family by his side on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Bryant was born Aug. 13, 1939, in Floyd County, a son of the late Johnie and Cordelia Newsome Bryant.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jerrod Charles, in 2005 and a sister, Joyce Bryant.
In years past, he worked at Ford Motor Co. while living in Belleville, Mich. He also owned several businesses locally, Bryant’s Standard Oil in South Shore, Bryant’s Ashland Oil in Lloyd, Bryant’s Ashland Oil in Greenup and Greenup Tire.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edna Gillum Bryant; a daughter, Karen Charles and her husband, Jerry, of Argillite; three sons, Kerry Bryant and his wife, Fran, of Lloyd, James “Keith” Bryant of Lloyd and Jim Clarkson and his wife, Teresa, of Lancaster, Ohio; seven brothers, Bill Bryant of Lloyd, Orville Bryant of Troy, Ala., Ted Bryant of Troy, Johnny Bryant of Troy, Doug Bryant of Troy, Jack Bryant of Stanton and Jerry Bryant of Raceland; and four sisters, Josie Henson of McDowell, Gertie Howell of South Shore, Pat Utterback of Stanton and Mary Bryant of Troy.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Greenup First Baptist Church by Dr. Tom Melvin and Elder Terry Bryant. Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and an hour before services Saturday at the church.
