Larry Jerome Scaggs Sr., 75, of Flatwoods, loving husband of Wilma Welch Scaggs, died at his home following an extended illness on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.
Larry was born July 29, 1937, in Ashland, a son of the late Buel and Hazel Fairchild Scaggs.
He was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years service, was a pipefitter and a former auto body instructor at the Ashland Area Vocational School (ACTC).
Larry was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a daughter, Sheri Lenore Scaggs McQuaid in 1989.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Larry Scaggs Jr. and wife Christina Harris-Scaggs of Ashland; a daughter, Debbie Rice and husband Andrew of Rush; four grandchildren, Jeremy Worthington and wife Megan Weis-Worthington, Morgan Harris, Mason Scaggs, and J.D. McQuaid; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Gabe, and Abigail Worthington, and Kadence and Kyla McQuaid; and his best friend, Greg Tackett of St. Cloud, Fla..
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Brother Jimm Smedley. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
