Lindsey Ray Cossett Sr. - 1929-2013

ASHLAND — Lindsey Ray Cossett Sr., 83, of Ashland, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Ray was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Ashland, a son of the late Charles and Pearl Esther Terry Cossett. He was also preceded in death by brothers Jack and James Cossett and granddaughter Lisa Anne Barham.

Ray was a lifelong member of Unity Baptist Church in Ashland, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the church choir and the Ambassador Quartet. He was a former choir director at Summit Missionary Baptist, was a Kentucky colonel and a former member of the South Ashland Lions Club. He attended Ashland Junior College and Morehead State University, and was a senior mill clerk, retiring after 38 years of service at Armco Steel Corp.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Pennington Cossett; sons Lindsey Ray Cossett Jr. and wife Vicki of Flatwoods and David Allen Cossett and wife Jerrie of Lawrence County; daughters Sally Ann Crance and husband John and Mandy Lee Barham and husband David, all of Ashland; a brother, Donald Cossett and wife Page of Sanford, N.C.; a sister, Midge Gray of Lexington; grandchildren Seth Cossett, Amy (Tommy) Reynolds, Andrea (Jason) McGarey, Chuck (Becky) Crance, Andrew (Holly Marie) Crance, Adam (Holly Ann) Crance, Kristopher (Chelsea) Barham, James Ray (Larin) Barham, Jeffrey Barham, Tiffanie (Mark) Buckner, Hannah Cossett, Kristina Barham and Jordan Barham; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Jim Riggs and Dr. Floyd Paris. Entombment will be in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions to the Unity Baptist Church Building Fund, 2320 29th St., Ashland, KY 41101.

Pallbearers will be Tom Reynolds, Jim, Jeff and Kris Barham, Jason McGarey and Drew, Adam and Chuck Crance.
