ASHLAND —
Janet Ruth Bodo, daughter of the late Colonel Chaplain George L. and Ruth Kastenhuber Youman, who are both interred in Chaplains Corner of Arlington National Cemetery, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born July 17, 1924, in Great Meadows, N.J.
She was a graduate of Ashland High School, Ashland Community College, Marshall University and The University of Houston. She was a 52 year member of the Eastern Star, OES 404, South Pont, Ohio, Chapter and a Kentucky colonel. She was on the Board of Directors of Ashland Community College’s School of Nursing, also Morehead State University, Shawnee State University, and Collins Career Center. She was an honorary member of Central Baptist Church and their Philippines Mission Church. She and her husband, Bill, were instrumental in the implementation of the memorial walk at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County.
Janet retired as a personnel manager with Ashland Oil, Inc., human resources, and was very active with the Ashland Oil Retirees.
Janet was a world traveler and a great humanitarian, she never said the first unkind word. There would not be enough pages to cover her love for mankind which was above and beyond. Janet loved God and was a devoted wife to her husband and mother to their children. She loved her career with Ashland Oil and the girls she worked with.
Survivors include her loving husband Victor Bill Bodo of Ashland; daughter, Deborah Ann Cordle Kouns and husband James of Nicholasville; sons, Brian Cordle and wife Marieanne of Ona, W.Va., David W. Cordle of Smithville, Va., Ronald Cordle and wife Virginia of League City, Texas; stepdaughters, Dr. Catherine C. Bodo Spencer of Greenville, S.C. and Monterrey, Mexico, Mary V. Bodo Evans and husband Ronald of Ashland, and Lisa L. Bodo Saunders and husband Terri of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Ecumenical services will be at noon Monday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Monsignor Lawrence Luciana, Pastor Darrell Clark, and Brother Richard Shields. An Eastern Star service will be at the beginning of services at noon. Entombment will be in the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be sons, grandsons and great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial luncheon will immediately follow the service at Central Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall, 600 29th St. in Ashland, everyone is invited.
