Sarah E. “Edith” Kilburn - 1937-2010
Sarah E. “Edith” Kilburn, 72, of Ashland, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 15, 2010, with her loving family by her side, in King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was born May 30, 1937, in Paintsville, to the late Riley and Maggie Mae Tackett Jackson. She was a devoted homemaker and of the Christian Faith.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Kilburn, of Ashland; sons, Michael (Teri) Cooper of Catlettsburg and David (Joanna) Cooper of Olive Hill; a daughter, Kimberly (Troy) Haring of Cookville, Tenn.; stepdaughters, Connie (Paul) Hunt of South Shore and Janice (Chris) Johnson of Argillite; brothers, Jerry (Charlie) Jackson of Columbus, Ohio and Richard (Cindy) Jackson of N.C.; sisters, Joyce Dixon of Ashland, Loretta (Everett) Wilson of Ashland and Deborah (Danny) Nelson of Ashland; and 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, her brother Elmer Jackson preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Rev. Brian Steele. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Delbert Davis - 1917-2010
Delbert Davis, 92, of Ashland, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Center. He was born July 29, 1917, in Catlettsburg, Ky. to the late Frank and Elsie Plymale Cumpston and adoptive parents E.H. and Carrie Davis. He was retired from C&O; Railroad, a former member of the Ashland Auxiliary Police and was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Marie Davis; a daughter, Betty Stewart; a grandson Jerry Lee Stewart; and a granddaughter, Debra Curnutte.
Survivors include a daughter, Elsie Clark of Ashland; four grandchildren, Barbara (Chris) Payne, Carolyn (Eric) Slatcoff, Annette (David) Painter and Russell Stewart; two sisters, Nettie Beckett of Texas and Patty Artrip of Tenn.; two brothers, John Davis of Wash. and Earl Davis of Flatwoods; and 7 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by Rev. Garrett Bugg and Rev. Jennifer Johnson. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Mary J. Walton - 1924-2010
Mary J. Walton, 85, formerly of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, in Dayton, Ohio. She was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Huntington, W.Va., along with her twin sister, Mamie Murray Holmes, to the late Charles and Anna Murray.
She was a baptized member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, an avid camper and a member of NCHA along with her husband, the late George Walton Jr., for many years. She was retired from C & O Railroad.
She is survived by her twin sister, Mamie Holmes; a nephew, Fred Holmes; nieces, Karla (Hicks) Eivins, Karen (Hicks) Kouns and Janelle (Holmes) Gillum; a great-nephew, Bryce Eivins; and a great niece, Jasmine Kami Eivins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her younger sister, Nellie Murray Hicks.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, in Ashland Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Steen Funeral Home - Central Avenue Chapel was in charge of local arrangements.

Ollie G. Davis - 1938-2010
Ollie G. Davis, 71, of Greenup, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Catlettsburg, Ky. to the late Earnest H. Davis and Carrie Waldon. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are a special friend, Diane S. Evans, of Greenup; three brothers, Earl Davis of Flatwoods, Delbert Davis of Ashland and John and Diana Davis of Longview, Wash.; and two sisters, Patty and Raymond Artrip of Crossplains, Tenn. and Carrie and Joe Beckett of Ledbetter, Texas.
Private services were held at an earlier date. Burial was in Caroline Cemetery.

Elwood Lock - 1942-2010
Elwood Lock, 67, of Morrow, Ohio, formally of Grayson, Ky., departed from this life Friday, Jan. 15, 2010. He was born Feb. 9, 1942, in Carter County to the late Flowron and Lorraine Sallie Lock. He was a retired heavy equipment operator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelina McDavid.
Surviving are a son, Eddie and wife Kelly Lock of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Angela Lock of West Liberty, Ky.; three granddaughters, Amanda Lock of Lexington and Mollie and Riley DeWitt of West Liberty; a brother, Richard Lock of Columbus, Ohio; four sisters, Sharon Morrison of Columbia S.C., Vernetta “Nettie” Stephens of Grayson, Joyce and husband Garrett Davis of Hitchins, Ky. and Juanita and husband Jim Shepard of Fairborne, Ohio.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Gobel Memorial Methodist Church on Beckwith Branch by Glen Newland, Ed McKinney and John Gobel. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Raymond Romans - 1929-2010
Raymond Romans, 80, of Rush, Ky., departed this life from home on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010. He was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Carter County, Ky. to the late Everett Romans and Loma Keaton-Romans. He was retired from General Motors in Pontiac, Mich., an Army Sergeant, a Korean War Veteran and a retired UAW member. He loved to help people by handcrafting leather items, keys and acting as a notary public.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Romans; and two sisters, Mary Roe and Phylliss Fankell.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Withrow-Romans; a daughter, Wanda Rice of Rush; a grandson, Phillip Rice Jr. and his wife Candidia Rice of Rush; a granddaughter, April Rice of Rush; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Rice of Catlettsburg; and a great-grandson, Dylan Rice of Rush.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Jerry Foster officiating. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Stella W. DeBorde - 1919-2010
Stella W. DeBorde, 90, of Chillicothe, died at 2:28 p.m., Jan. 12, 2010, in Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla. She was born April 26, 1919, in Louisa, Ky., to the late Morda and Golda Wilson. She married Woodrow DeBorde on Sept. 25, 1940. He preceded her in death Aug. 12, 2003.
Stella worked at the former US Shoe Corporation and retired from Sears, where she worked in the Catalog Sales Department. She was a former member of Belles & Beaus Square Dance Club.
Surviving are daughters, Sharon Cunningham of Sarasota, Fla., Jackie DeBorde and her friend Donnie Schroeder of Circleville and North Port, Fla. and Sandy (Kit) Bucy of Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Missie (Tom) Madru of Frankfort, Ohio, Clay (Kim) Bucy of Kettering, Ohio, Angie Bucy of New Hope, Pa. and Richard (Kristen) Cunningham of Bradenton, Fla; five great-grandchildren, Mitchell Madru, Andrea and Noah Bucy and Beau and Brock Cunningham; a brother, Joe Wilson of Mt. Dora, Fla.; three sisters, Clara Vagnier (Marvin Kipp) of Mt. Dora, Jesse Johnson of Ashville, Ohio and Doris (Norman) Braughton of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Ramey officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa.

Elmo Click - 1927-2010
Carl Elmo Click, 82, of Elliott County, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Ky. He was born July 13, 1927, in Elliott County, to the late Weilliam Henry and Mary Howard Click. His wife, Edna Howell Click, preceded him in death.
He was a retired pipefitter with Huntington, W.Va. Plumbers and Steamfitters Local. He was a former Elliott County School Board Member, a member of Hepburn Lodge 576 F & AM and Elliott County VFW Post 11428, an Army WWII veteran and a good Christian man that always tried to help in his community.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Lytten and Geneva Carter.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Pauline Porter of Morehead.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 17, 2010, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, Ky. with Brother Billy T. Rice officiating. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.

Dorothy Twinam Slack - 1913-2010
Dorothy Twinam Slack, 96, of Huntington, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, in Heritage Center in Huntington. She was born July 18, 1913, in Ashland, Ky. to the late Ernest and Mary Jane Donaldson Twinam. Her husband, Charles Francis Slack, preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Ashland High School and was a member of Johnson memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Huntington Woman’s Club, Hope Group and E.T. Jones Bible Class.. She was also a senior volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Margaret Twinam Young. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Slack Starkey of Huntington; grandchildren, Walter W. Starkey IV of Raleigh, N.C., Retired Colonel Richard Starkey of Tampa Fla., Kevin Starkey and wife Lisa of Las Vegas, N.V., Dina Weiss and husband Bill of Poquoson, Va. and Charles Francis Slack of Portsmouth, Va.; great-grandchildren, Rick Starkey of Hampton, Va., Lori Starkey of St. Augustine, Fla., Sarah and Morgan Starkey of Raleigh, N.C. and Brandon, Kyle and Westin Weiss of Poquoson, Va.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. today, Jan. 17, 2010, at Chapman’s Mortuary in Huntington with Pastor Jack Lipphardt and her nephew Rev. Don Young officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park.
