OLIVE HILL —
He was born July 4, 1923, in Carter County, a son of the late Ernest and Naomi Kiser Sparks.
Glenn proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945, where he was stationed mainly in Pensacola, Fla. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Olive Hill for 28 years, retiring in 1980. Glenn was known throughout the years for his beautiful penmanship, calligraphy and various art skills. He loved nature and simplicity in life.
He was married to Opal Lawson Sparks from 1943 until her death in 2007. Two brothers, Arlon J. Sparks and John Henry Sparks, also preceded him in death.
Glenn is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Cecil Hewlett of Piketon, Ohio, and Kathy and Lynn Fletcher of Greenwood, Ind.; four grandchildren, Kim Hewlett Swepston of Waverly, Claire Fletcher, Emma Fletcher and Owen Fletcher, all of Greenwood, Ind.; one great-granddaughter, Sheridan McLean of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be missed by family, many relatives, and friends.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Tick Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, with Brother Richard Allen Short officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, and until 12:30 p.m. on Monday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
