John M. “Pete” Stambaugh - 1921-2012

ASHLAND — John M. “Pete” Stambaugh, 91, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Stambaugh, the son of the late Cam H. and Elizabeth Walters Stambaugh.  

He was the owner of the His & Her Shop in South Ashland, a member of Old Orchard Christian Church and Ashland Woodworkers and past president of the South Ashland Business Association. He was a Realtor, a member of the Ashland Area Art Gallery and a World War II Army veteran with the 227 Searchlight Battalion. He was also a member of the Paintsville Tiger football team that won the Big Sandy Conference in 1937.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorotha Marie “Dottie” Lambert Stambaugh; a daughter, Sharon E. Stambaugh Croft; a brother, James Marshall Williamson; and two sisters, Vivian Williamson Branham and Lorraine Stapleton.

He is survived by a daughter, Lee Stambaugh-Gibbs and husband Rocky of Ashland; four grandchildren, John Clayton White, Alyson Elizabeth Croft, Lauren Marie Gibbs-Burgess and Tyler Morgan Gibbs; and eight great-grandchildren, Evan White, Ian White, Jack White, Zane White, Oliver Keit, Jaxon Burgess, Reagan Burgess and Ryder Burgess.  

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Bill Kennedy. Military rites will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93. Burial will be in Wells-Buckingham Cemetery in Paintsville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
