Alice Jean Walters 1931-2012

ASHLAND — Alice Jean Walters, 81, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Alice was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Paintsville, a daughter of the late Heiskel Roland and Lena Mae Borders Walters. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Chester H. Walters, and a nephew, Charles Dickison.

Ms. Walters was a member of Ashland United Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1949 and served on the reunion committee for many years. Her greatest passions were spending time with her family and her great group of friends in her bowling league. She was an office manager with more than 40 years of dedicated service with Leadingham Eye Care and was an optician technician with the former Penta Optics Co. in Ashland.    

Survivors include two brothers, Edwin Shane Walters and wife Anna of Tallahassee, Fla., and Rex B. Walters and wife Margaret of Ashland; a sister, Nelle Frances Dickison and husband Virgil of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Betty G. Walters of St. Louis, Mo.; and nephews and nieces Edwin S. Walters Jr., Linda McCranie, Pamela Walters, Chester H. Walters Jr., Timothy Walters, Kimberly Walters, Kathy Dickison, Jay Dickison and Beth Ann Francis

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Elders David Trimble and CJ Murray. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
