GRAYSON —
Mary Will DeSantis, 81, of Grayson, died Friday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mary was born July 25, 1931, in Grayson to the late Zachary Taylor Hall Sr. and Alma Brammell Hall of Grayson.
Mary Will dedicated her life to educating our young people of Carter County with a career that spanned for more than 38 years. She taught at Prichard High School and then later at East Carter County High. She led by example by being a life long learner herself, earning a bachelors, masters, and a Rank I in education. Her love of being in the classroom was matched by her love of high school sports. She was track coach for Prichard High School as well as East Carter High. As a dedicated fan of the Raider basketball and baseball teams, she could be found cheering the loudest for her beloved students and coaches. She was an honorary member of the MTXE club in very high standing. Not even breaking her leg while cutting the net after a district boy’s championship win could keep her from her beloved teams.
Mary Will was a member of the First Church of Christ in Grayson, the Grayson Younger Woman’s Club, the Red Rose Garden club and a Junior Girl Scout leader, serving the community she loved so well.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Nicholas Thomas DeSantis II; two brothers, Ralph Cass Hall, Zachary Taylor Hall; and infant niece, Lisa Taylor Hall, all of Grayson.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary DeSantis Scott (William Jeffrey) and Nina DeSantis, both of Grayson; son, Nick DeSantis (Art Anderson) of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, William Taylor Scott of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lauren Nicole Scott (Matthew Dick) of Lexington; and two great-grandchildren, Henry Tate Dick and Nora Jane Dick of Lexington. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnston Hall and Wilma Littleton Hall; niece, Ramona Burchett; and nephews, Cass Hall (Alison) and Mark Hall (Nicki); five great-nieces; one great-nephew; and one great-great-nephew.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Malone Funeral Home by Brian Bush. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Condolences may be left for the family at malonefuneralhome.com.
