FLATWOODS —
Betty Jean Flocker-Felty, 82, of Flatwoods, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and now rests in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
Betty was born in Russell on May 23, 1930, to the late Adrian Allen and Vada Missouri Vinson-Felty. She was very proud to have earned her GED in 1978 and was a graduate of the Ashland School of Beauty Culture in 1968 and became a licensed cosmetologist. Betty worked as a hairdresser at Hair Fashions for decades where she sported a great reputation for teasing hair. Ms. Felty was an active volunteer at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in the billing office, having earned an 8,100-hour pin for her years of dedicated service. Betty was also a devoted member of Oak Street Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Flatwoods.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Adrian Allen “Bud” Flocker Jr., and two sisters, Nellie Mae Price and Mary Britt.
She is survived by four daughters, Nanette Willis of Russell, Elizabeth “Sis” Felty of Alexandria, Va., Bonnie Good of Lexington and Yvonne Cubbison of Ashland; two brothers, Albert Lee Flocker and William Terrell Flocker, both of Russell; seven grandchildren, Christine, Scott, Aaron, Emily, Ian, Johnny and Donna; nine great-grandchildren, including Luke who was the light of her eyes; a special sister-in-law, Shirley Flocker of Worthington; and a dear friend, Suzanne Lewis, who mentored her as a volunteer at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, all of whom will miss her dearly.
There will be a funeral service to honor her life at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods today, Sept. 12, 2012, at 7 p.m. Words of comfort and reassurance will be delivered to those in attendance by Pastors Roger McCaleb and Jack Edwards.
Visitation for family and friends will be after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memory of Betty Felty to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Foundation, 1000 St. Christopher Drive, Ashland, KY 41101 for the Volunteer Department or the Da Vinci Surgical System.
