Donald Eugene Arthur - 1935-2012

IRONTON — Donald Eugene Arthur, 77 of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at his residence.

The Coal Grove native was born Aug. 24, 1935, the son of the late James and Bernice Legg Arthur.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nell Rose Haas Arthur, whom he married Jan. 11, 1958.

Mr. Arthur attended Coal Grove High School and was a former employee of Allied Chemical and Wilson's Sporting Goods. He attended the Community Tabernacle in Coal Grove, and was a member of the Pepsi Cola Bowling League. He enjoyed every kind of sport, fishing and spending time with the family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George Anderson, Charlie Arthur and Raymond Arthur; and two sisters, Ernestine Hunley and Leona Gilliland.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four nieces, Geraldine Reed of Huntington, W.Va., Carol Hunley of Coal Grove, Jan Lievee of Ironton, and Mary Hitchcock of Coal Grove; two nephews, Paul David Rase and his wife Beth Rase of Ironton and Patrick Dean Rase and his wife Jennifer Rase of Georgetown, Ky.; four sisters-in-law, Pat Arthur of Coal Grove, Wilma Jean Rase and her husband Patrick Henry Rase of Ironton, Norma Duty and her husband Harold Duty of Pine Grove, and Ruth Haas of Brazil, Ind.; four great-nieces, Erica Blankenship of Charleston, S.C., Marlee Slack of Chesapeake, and Karlie Rase and Kaylie Rase, both of Ironton; and great-nephews, Jonathan Rase and Nathaniel Rase, both of Georgetown, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South Seventh Street, Ironton, with Pastor Dean Rase officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Richie Slack, Paul Rase, Danny Haas, Harold Duty and Bill Reed.
