ASHLAND —
Garen Douglas Carter, 78, of Ashland, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
He was born March 13, 1934, at Emma, to the late Albert and Elsie Thompson-Carter.
Douglas was of the Protestant faith and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Mr. Carter also retired from Home Federal Savings & Loan where he served many years as the president and CEO.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his wife, Mary Ann Vaughn-Carter of Ashland; two daughters, Billie Ann Wheeler and her husband, Bill, of Grove City, Ohio, and Terri Kay Scaff and her husband, Sam, of Raceland; three grandchildren, Jason Huff and his wife, Chrissy, of Ashland, Steven Wheeler and his wife, Lynn, of Grove City, Ohio, and Heather Thomas of Ironton; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Jae Huff, Garren Huff, Lilly Thomas and Miles Thomas; one brother, Jack Carter of Greenville, S.C.; and numerous friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Gary Arrington officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Wednesday.
