Ersel Edward Salyers - 1926-2012

FLATWOODS — Ersel Edward Salyers, 85, of Flatwoods, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland and is now is the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Mr. Salyers was born on Nov. 24, 1926, in Boyd County to the late Ben and Dora Salyers.

Ersel retired from AK Steel, where he worked as a repairman for many years. He also served his country proudly and honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the S.S. Puget Sound. Mr. Salyers enjoyed attending church and was a member of the Straight Creek Nazarene for 70 plus years. He was a family man and enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends.

In addition to his mother and father, Ersel was preceded in death by five brothers, Willard, Carl, Cecil, Henry and Lewis; five sisters, Kate, Stella, Marie, Ellen and Florence; and one great-granddaughter, Baylie Faith Biggs.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Juanita Salyers; three sons, Richard (Sharon) Hall, Gary (Madelyn) Salyers and Danny (Barb) Salyers; six grandchildren, Missy Hall, Bub (Erica) Hall, Bethany (James) Brown, Sara (Jason) Crisp, Steve Hall and Chelle (Mike) Biggs; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Sue King and Marchetta Salyers; a special family friend, Delbert (Kaye) Vance; and one special “brother,” George Salyers.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at the Straight Creek Nazarene Church with words of comfort delivered by the Rev. Gary Ersel Salyers. Burial will follow at Kirby Flats Cemetery on Ky. 5. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, August 11, 2012, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
