Elizabeth Liesel Sloan (1926-2010)

Elizabeth Liesel Sloan, 83, of Ashland, died Friday evening, Feb. 5, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Kaiserslauten, Germany, to the late Philip and Elizabeth Wagner Yaeger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Sloan, in 1994.

She was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Baptist Church and was an active Red Cross Volunteer at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Surviving are a son, Frank Sloan and wife Cheri of Ashland; a daughter, Marilyn Hemness of Safford, Ariz.; a sister, Inga Crawford of Ashland, Mass.; four grandchildren, Brandon Sloan, Jordan Sloan, Christian Sloan and Michelle Fullmer; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Ryder.

Private services will be held under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home.

Brittany Rose Harman (1990-2010)

Brittany Rose Harman, 19, of Catlettsburg, went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 5, 2010. She was born Feb. 22, 1990, in Louisa, Ky., to Gregory and Traci Breads Harman. She was a 2008 graduate of Boyd County High School and an employee of Cannonsburg McDonalds. She was a faithful member of Catalpha Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a paternal grandmother, Avanelle Wells; a brother, Joseph and wife Lindsay Harman of Lexington; a sister, Jennifer Harman of Morehead; and a host of aunts, uncles and extended family.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Catalpha Freewill Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Cox will bring words of comfort and Pastor Mike Amos will offer the eulogy.

Friends may call from 4 to 11 p.m. today at the church.

Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.



Joseph Lee Marshall (1938-2010)

Joseph Lee Marshall, 72, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Feb. 6, 2010, in Russell, Ky. He was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Johns Creek, Ky., to the late Oliver H. and Lois Clark Marshall. His wife, Janet Bailey Marshall, survives.

He was retired from AK Steel, production and planning. He was of the Christian faith and was a member of Smith Lodge 775 F&AM; of Flatwoods, Scottish Rite of Covington and Greenup County and the El Hasa Shrine.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robin “Rob” Marshall and wife Patricia of Ashland; a daughter, Rhonda Marshall Gillam of Lexington, Ky.; two grandchildren, Roger Marshall of Northern, Ky. and Nancy Hackworth of Lexington.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Pastor Jim Matthews. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Masonic services at 7 p.m.



Bess Burton Colley

Bess Burton Colley, 92, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Grayson, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in the Markey Cancer Center. She was a widow of Everett Colley. She was one of two daughters of Walter and Eva McCleese Burton.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Grayson. She worked at Rupert’s Department Store, as a receptionist for Dr. Robert Wassum and at Tots n Teens with her sister Pauline.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Pauline.

She is survived by a son, Franklin and wife Alice of Lexington; two grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Malone Funeral Home by Minister Tim Nischan. Burial will be in Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery in Iron Hill.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Eugene Adkins (1941-2010)

Eugene Adkins, 68, of Sandy Hook, Ky., passed away Saturday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born Aug. 22, 1941, to the late Dona and Eula Gibbs Adkins. He was formerly employed by the Ky. State Highway Dept.

He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Holbrook of Wapakoneta, Ohio and Tonya Caines of Ashland; 7 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jr. (Junie) Adkins and J.C. Adkins, both of Sandy Hook; and a sister, Eula Dean Prater of Sandy Hook.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook with Brother Jim Harris officiating. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Carolyn Miller

Carolyn Miller, 66, of Ironton, passed away unexpectedly last month in Winter Park, Fla. She was born in Ironton to the late Edward and Wilma Carman Rayburn.

She graduated from Winter Park High School and the University of Florida. In 1976, she moved to Wilmington, Del., where she worked at a successful career until she returned to Winter Park to live with her mother and be near her aunt, Betty Whitley.

Carolyn had a wonderful heart and a special kindness about her that will be missed by friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Michelle; and her stepfather, Michael Callahan.

She is survived by a son, Troy (Amy) Miller; grandchildren, Zach, Jake, Leah and Ava of Northfield, Ohio; two brothers, Stephen Callahan of Fla. and Charles (Cindy) Callahan of N.C.; ex-husband, Michael Miller, of Ky.; and aunts and uncles, Ray Duerk of Va., Pat Rayburn and Charles (Ramona) Rayburn of Ga. and Joyce (Jack) Riggs of Russell, Ky.

A memorial service was held Sunday the 31st at Union Christian Church, Orlando and Palm Cemetery, Winter Park, by minister Tom Hensley.



Marie King (1918-2010)

Marie Damron King, 92, formerly of Catlettsburg, died Friday in Pike Community Hospital in Waverly, Ohio. She was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Amerstdele, W.Va.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Committal will be in Golden Oaks Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.



Donald James Carter Sr.

Donald James Carter Sr., 86, of Flatwoods, died Saturday in Ashland. His wife, Virginia L. Calfee Carter, survives.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.



John Alford Cooper (1942-2010)

John Alford Cooper, 67, of Olive Hill, died Thursday at his residence. He was born April 4, 1942, in Carter County. His wife, Sandra Lee Parker Cooper, survives.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Cooper Cemetery on Cooper Cemetery Road in Olive Hill. Military rites will be conducted by Olive Hill American Legion Post 138.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday and until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.

Madge Whitt Lambert (1932-2010)

Madge Whitt Lambert, 77, of Olive Hill, died Thursday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. She was born June 18, 1932, in Elliott County.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Tammy Bledsoe Barker, 49, of Olive Hill, died Friday at her residence.

Ruth Martin Roberts, 73, of Drift, wife of Joe Ermel Roberts, died Saturday at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Roberts Family Cemetery in Drift.

Charles Edward Prater, 81, of Salyersville, died Friday.

Martha Jean Preston Wells (1971-2010)

Martha Jean Preston Wells, 39, of Louisa, died Friday. She was born Jan. 3, 1971, in Louisa. Her husband, Clarence Cody Wells, survives.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Garden of Hope Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa.

Young Funeral Home in Louisa is in charge of arrangements.



Lexie Caskey Kersey (1923-2010)

Lexie Caskey Kersey, 86, of West Liberty, died Friday in Morgan County ARH in West Liberty. She was born June 25, 1923, in Lenox, Ky. She was the wife of Lawrence J. Kersey.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lacy Creek Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Church of Christ Cemetery in Lacy Creek.

William A. “Bill” Gaskin (1930-2010)

William A. “Bill” Gaskin, 80, of South Point, died Friday. He was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Feesburg. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn. His wife, Velma Gaskin, survives.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of South Point. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, donat- ions may be made to the William A. Gaskin Memorial Fund, U.S. Bank, 702 4th Street E., South Point, Ohio 45680, for the continuing improvement of South Point.
