Donald Eugene Reffitt (1935-2010)

Donald Eugene Reffitt, 75, of Summit, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 21, 1935, in Westwood, Ky., to the late Deedie and Pearl Adkins Reffitt. He retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad and was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David Kent Reffitt and Mark Edward Reffitt; a grandson, Chad Winfield Reffitt; brothers James Earl Reffitt, Delbert “Ted” Reffitt, Paul Reffitt and Billy Reffitt; and a sister, Pauline Stidham.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Jean Hall Reffitt; a son, Greg Reffitt and wife Mary of London, Ky.; two daughters, Sherry Young and husband Steve of Westwood, Ky., and Angie Newman of Summit, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Scott Young, Chris Young, Jeremy Reffitt, Colby Reffitt, Dylan Reffitt, Tyler Grubb, Justin Newman, Jordan Newman and Devan Reffitt; six great-grandchildren, Jacob Young, Caleb Young, Maddison Young, Cody Young, Callie Young and Camron Young; two brothers, Denver Reffitt and wife Lucille of Corsicana, Texas, and Glen Reffitt and wife Rushia of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters, Helen Tietz of Atlanta, Ga., and Ramona Sue Hall and husband Butch of Ashland; and his companion and pet, Benji.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2010, at Dixon Cemetery in Westwood by Pastor Opal Collinsworth. There will be no visitation.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Damron King (1918-2010)

Marie Damron King, 92, a longtime resident of Catlettsburg, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in Pike Community Hospital in Waverly, Ohio.

She was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Amerstdele, W.Va., to the late James J. and Lucinda Adkins Damron. She retired from White Swan Laundry and was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending the Ashland/Boyd County Senior Center and loved to quilt.

Surviving are her husband, Chester King of Columbus, Ohio; a son, George E. King and wife Linda of Waverly; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Leona King; a brother, Jay Damron; and sisters Lucille Vanwest, Erma Corns, Stella Boggs and Lillian Reeder.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Mike Blankenship will offer a message of comfort. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Donald J. Carter Sr. (1924-2010)

Donald J. Carter Sr., 86, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Feb. 6, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Kenova, W.Va., to the late Jessie and Nora Skaggs Carter. He was a retired brakeman for the C&O; Railroad and a member of Bridges Christian Church in Russell, Ky. He was a Navy veteran who served during World War II and was a member of United Transportation Local 1389.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Levine Carter.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Virginia L. Calfee Carter of Flatwoods; a son, Donald J. Carter Jr. (Linda) of Russell, Ky.; two daughters, Janet Shaw (Ray) of Canton, Ohio, and Sandra Kay Pedeseo (Jim) of Cody, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Jessie Edward Carter of Flatwoods, George Martin Carter of Raceland, Ky., Bill “BI” Carter of Russell and Benny Carter of Flatwoods.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Mark McKinney. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. Military graveside services will be by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donations may be sent to the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.



Violet Shepherd

Violet Shepherd, 57, of Ashland, died Sunday in Community Hospice Care Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel.



Joshua David Slone (1984-2010)

Joshua David Slone, 25, of Odessa, Texas, formerly of Louisa, died Wednesday in Crossville, Tenn.

He was born July 28, 1984, in Lawrence County.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Ball Cemetery in Mattie.

Brittiney Williamson (1988-2010)

Brittiney Lynne Williamson, 22, of East Point, died Friday in Hagerhill.

She was born Dec. 30, 1988, in Johnson County.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and until the services Tuesday at the funeral home.



Ronald Dean “Ronnie” Lemaster (1957-2010)

Ronald Dean “Ronnie” Lemaster, 53, of Flatwoods, died Friday at his residence.

He was born Jan. 20, 1957, in Indianapolis.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Elzie Thomas Pittman (1925-2010)

Elzie Thomas Pittman, 84, of Paintsville, died Friday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Ware County, Ga. His wife, Gearldine Pittman, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville.



Larry M. “Mike” Altvater (1946-2010)

Larry M. “Mike” Altvater, 63, of Vanceburg, died Saturday at his residence.

He was born Nov. 4, 1946, in Worton, Ohio. His wife, Nancy Gardner Altvater, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.

George Bailey, 84, of Sal-yersville, died Saturday.

Kendall Ray Trent (1961-2010)

Kendall Ray Trent, 48, of Morehead, died Saturday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

He was born Aug. 6, 1961.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Wagoner Corner Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today, all day Tuesday and before services Wednesday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Jane Blagg (1924-2010)

Elizabeth Jane Blagg, 85, of Ironton, died Saturday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland.

She was born March 8, 1924, in Ironton. Her husband, Dr. Vallee W. Blagg, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

Erma Opal Robinson (1924-2010)

Erma Opal Robinson, 85, of Ironton, died Friday at her residence.

She was born Feb. 24, 1924. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Ray Robinson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Woodland Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Slabfork Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon at the church.

Donald Willis (1937-2010)

Donald Willis, 72, died Saturday in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

He was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Lawrence County. He is survived by his wife, Nina Willis.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Ice Creek Cemetery in Deering.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where there will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
