Glen L. Nunley
Glen L. Nunley, 91, formerly of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 23, 2010.
His military funeral and celebration of life were in Topeka, Kan. Major Nunley served in World War II, the National Guard and the Army Reserve.
He was the previous owner of Move-Rite Transfer and was preceded in death by his first wife, Nita Nunley.
He is survived by a son, Scott Nunley; a daughter, Cheryl (Ed) Spears of Ashland; three grandsons, Gary (Kim) Nunley, Chris Ronay and Eric (Lindsey) Ronay; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dot Ellington.
He is also survived by his wife, Patricia Nunley; a son, Mark (LeeAnn) Patrick; a daughter, Kimberly Patrick; two grandsons, Ryan Patrick and Kai Wandry; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Boggs, all of Kansas.
His brother, Dex (June) Nunley, resides in Ironton, Ohio.
The family requests memorial gifts be given to First Christian Church or South Ashland United Methodist Church, both in Ashland, Ky.
James M. Nickell
James M. Nickell, 80, of Alexandria, Va., passed away Thursday, March 11, in Washington Home for Hospice Care in Washington, D.C.
He was a longtime and highly respected professor of political science at St. Mary’s College of Md.
He was born in Huntington, W.Va., to Ira M. and Mary Sue McLaughlin Nickell and was raised in Ashland, Ky., graduating from Ashland High School at age 16. He attended Vanderbilt University, completing his A.B. at the University of Kentucky, where he also began graduate studies.
From 1951 to 1955 he served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Following military service, he entered General Theological Seminary in New York City, completing the S.T.B. and taking up the Episcopal ministry, first as a chaplain at Bellevue Hospital and later as a minister in the Diocese of Newark, N.J.
Subsequently, Jim pursued graduate studies in political science at Duke University, earning an M.A. and a Ph.D. His teaching career began in 1966 at Park College in Kansas City, Mo. Ten years later, he took a faculty position at St. Mary’s College in St. Mary’s City, Md., where a long and distinguished career included appointments as chairman of the Division of History and Social Science and provost of the College.
Jim published a book and wrote numerous articles. He was an active member of a number of professional associations and attended national and international conferences.
Upon retirement from St. Mary’s College, Jim was awarded the rank of professor emeritus. In retirement, he continued to travel and to indulge his lifelong fascination with railways, amazing his friends with his command of train lore and timetables.
Surviving are a brother, Morton C. Nickell of Charlotte, N.C.; a niece, Carol A. Nickell of Charlotte; a nephew, James M. Nickell and wife Lynn of Dublin, Ohio; grandnieces Sara and Ashley; a grandnephew Adam; and legions of friends, academic colleagues and former students.
A memorial service will be planned.
Baby Maddox
An angel in the Book of Life wrote down my baby’s birth and whispered as she closed the book, “too beautiful for Earth.”
Baby Maddox, 22 weeks gestation, was born Feb. 26, 2010, to Daddy and Mommy Justin and Khristian Hunt and big brother Blake Rice.
Baby Maddox, our precious angel, will always be in our hearts and very sadly missed.

Phyllis Elaine Eldridge - 1935-2010
Phyllis Elaine Eldridge, 74, of Winchester, Ky., formerly of Firebrick, Ky., died Friday in Fountain Circle and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester.
She was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Firebrick, to the late Cecil Carpenter and Lillian Salyers Carpenter Dillow. She was a member of Firebrick Christian Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Eldridge, on Oct. 6, 2009; a grandson, Tyler Eldridge; and four brothers, Robert, Charles, Elmer and James Carpenter.
Surviving are three sons, Henry (Sherri) Eldridge III of Louisville, Ky., Charles (Kelly) Eldridge of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kenneth (Crystal) Eldridge of Quincy, Ky.; two daughters, Cheryl Kay Buckler and Peggy Nadine (Richard) Zornes, both of Winchester; a brother, Myrtie “Pud” Carpenter of Firebrick; three sisters, Doris Whitacre of Anderson, S.C., Kate Fitch of Fairborn, Ohio and Alfreda Hobson of Davenport, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore by the Rev. Raymond Lewis. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Millard N. Mills Jr. - 1927-2010
Millard N. Mills Jr., 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Friday, March 12, 2010, in Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born Jan. 3, 1927, in New Boston, Ohio, to the late Millard N. Mills Sr. and Bessie Moreland. He was a retired self-employed maintenance man and a member of the National and California rifle associations and the Eagles in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Surviving are three sons, Estill E. (Wanda) Mills of Ashland, Ralph Mills of North Carolina and Butch Mills of New Boston, Ohio; two daughters, Linda Jones of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Janine (Joey) Cassidy of West Portsmouth, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today, March 14, 2010, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

John Jones
John Jones, 77, of Kitts Hill, Ohio, died March 11, 2010, in Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va.
John was retired from Rollyson Aluminum Products and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by three sons, four daughters and two granddaughters.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Caroline Cemetery in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Jim Hargraves.

Billy Jay Brown, 72, of Breckenridge, Texas, formerly of Morgan County, died Thursday in Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Brown.

Tollie Hill - 1922-2010
Tollie Hill of Flatgap died Saturday in Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Paintsville.
He was born June 2, 1922, in Morgan County. His wife, Ruth Griffith Hill, preceded him in death.
