Tom Bator - 1939-2010
Mr. Tom Bator, 71, of Ashland, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
Mr. Bator was born Jan. 5, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton John and Lena Fernicoli Bator of New Jersey.
He was employed with the Ashland Bus System and was a former employee of TTA Bus of Huntington, W.Va.
He was affiliated with the El Hasa Shrine of Ashland, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Ironton, Ohio, and a lifelong member of the NRA. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Huntington Calligraphy Guild and Teamsters 505 of Huntington.
Mr. Bator is survived by his wife, Debbie Bryan Bator of Huntington; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Jane Bator of Houston, Texas; sons Josh (Shelli) Bator of Ironton and Adam Bator of Mississippi; daughters Michelle Bator of New Jersey and Nicole Bator of London, England; stepsons JD Cyrus, Tyler Bryan and Todd Bryan, all of Huntington; a stepdaughter, Rachel Jones of Ashland; two beloved grandchildren, Jonas Bator and Kylie Barcus; and three stepgrandchildren, Lindsey, Morgan and Madison Jones.
A memorial service will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton. Tom dedicated his body to the Marshall University School of Medicine.
Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends. “The truly educated never graduate.”

Elmer Braden - 1917-2010
Elmer Braden, 92, of Lynn, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.
Mr. Braden was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Worthington, Ky., a son of the late Hesbert and Bertha Boyles Braden.
Mr. Braden was a retired carpenter from Kinner Lumber in Greenup, Ky., and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals and was a member of Load Christian Baptist Church and was a lifelong fox hunter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Orville Braden, Carl Braden, Jimmy Braden and Harlan Braden; and two sisters, Dorothy Braden and Ruth Collier.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Juanita Carter Braden; two sons, Bruce (Wanda) Braden of Load, Ky., and Jeff (Anita) Braden of Lynn; a brother, Billie Gene Braden of Greenup, Ky.; a sister, Lucille Collier of Lloyd, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Chad (Maggie) Braden of Ashland, Ky., Hope Braden of Lynn and Jill Braden of Load.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Load Christian Baptist Church by Brother Mike Allen. Burial will be in Chaffins Cemetery on Little White Oak Road in Load. Military rites will be performed by James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore, Ky.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and an hour before services Thursday at Load Christian Baptist Church.

Millard “Butch” Riffe Jr. - 1949-2010
Millard “Butch” Riffe Jr., 60, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, in Regency Place of Fort Wayne.
He was born April 30, 1949, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Millard and Delma (Lucas) Riffe Sr.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. He retired from GTE/Verizon, where he worked in circuit design.
He was a stamp and coin collector and enjoyed playing cards at the VA, fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an adopted sister, Carolyn Sue Thompson. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Camille Wilczewski Riffe of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Dawn Michelle Jarrell and husband Brian of Clarkson, Ky., and Stephanie Renee Riffe of Uptown, Ky.; a stepson, Kenneth J. Lawless of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mary Anne Broughman and husband Freemont of Wurtland, Ky.; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Erie, Pa., on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010. There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Arnold “Junior” Steele - 1954-2010
Arnold E. “Junior” Steele, 55, of Westwood, died Sunday in the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was born Nov. 16, 1954.
His wife, Michelle Penix Steele, survives.

Ollie G. Davis, 71, of Greenup, died Tuesday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
She was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Catlettsburg.

Barbara Kiser - 1948-2010
Barbara Sue Tackett Kiser, 61, of Morehead, died Monday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born Nov. 18, 1948.
Her husband, Timothy Dee Kiser, survives.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead.
There will be no visitation.

Sheila Claxon - 1953-2010
Sheila Marie Claxon, 56, of Garrison, died Tuesday at her residence.
She was born Aug. 26, 1953, in Garrison.
Her husband, Ron Claxon of Hodgenville, survives.
