Dorothy Jo Crum - 1924-2010

Dorothy Jo Crum, 85, of Mattoon, Ill., died at 2:47 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Funeral services celebrating her life were Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Ave., Mattoon, IL 61938 with the Rev. John Titus officiating. Interment was in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon.

Dorothy was born June 14, 1924, in Rochester, Mich., the daughter of William and Josephine (Wessinger) Bailey. She married Lawrence H. Crum on June 30, 1951, in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He died on April 9, 1998.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jo Eberspacher and son-in-law, David of Mattoon; a granddaughter, Sarah Marie Eberspacher of Mattoon; and a sister, Joyce Newlin of Spanish Fort, Ala. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Marion Avalon Anderson.

Dorothy attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon. She was a retired kindergarten teacher, having taught for 38 years in Michigan, Virginia and Kentucky. In Ashland, Dorothy taught at Charles Russell Elementary School and established Bellefonte Kindergarten in 1959. A graduate of Michigan State University, Dorothy was a member of the Tower Guard (an academic honorary) and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Dorothy had a passion for playing bridge, enjoyed flower gardening, was an avid reader and was a member of the Friends of the Mattoon Public Library. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Kermit Preston - 1925-2010

Kermit Preston, 84, of Worthington, Ky., died Jan. 13, 2010, in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, Ky.

He was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Johnson County, Ky., a son of the late Garland and Elizabeth Johnson Preston.

He was a retired conductor for the C&O; Railroad, a member of Kenwood Baptist Church, a World War II Army veteran and had a doctorate in theology.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Ruth Dove Preston of Worthington; a daughter, Kerma Lynn (Kenny) Clark of Worthington; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Stepp of Bellefonte, Ky.; grandsons Kasey Clark, Jason Clark and Cory Clark; granddaughters Katie Clark and Kristen Wyscarver; great-grandson Brady Clark; and great-granddaughters Grace Caroline Clark and Bristol Clark.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, Ky., by Brother Dallas Sutton. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Carolyn Troxler - 1958-2010

Carolyn Jane Beach Troxler, 51, of Greenup, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.. surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 29, 1958, in Russell, Ky., a daughter of William Russell and Mary Jane Dale Beach of Greenup.

She was a 1978 graduate of Greenup County High School, a member of House of Praise in Greenup and a teacher’s aide at Wurtland Elementary School.

She is survived, along with her parents, by her husband, James Edward Troxler; a son, Jamathan Jabrae Troxler and his wife, Savannah, of Greenup; a daughter, Jamae Frances Troxler of Greenup; two brothers, Andre Pierre Beach of South Shore and David Russell Beach of Greenup; and a sister, Linda Jeanine Fitzpatrick of Greenup.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at the House of Praise in Greenup by Brother Bernard Twaine. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Greenup.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup and an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Arnold “Junior” Steele - 1954-2010

Arnold E. “Junior” Steele, 55, of Westwood, died Sunday in the Cleveland Clinic.

He was born Nov. 16, 1954, in Ironton, Ohio.

His wife, Michelle Penix Steele, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Winslow Cemetery.

Friends may call an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.



Claris Childers

Claris Leota Childers, 92, died Tuesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Her husband, Earl W. Childers, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Heck Funeral Home in Milton, W.Va. Burial will be in Forest Memorial Park in Milton.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edna Arnett

Edna Francis Evans Arnett, 89, of Salyersville, died Tuesday.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Magoffin County Funeral Home in Salyersville.

William Taulbee

William Taulbee, 47, of Wellington, died Wednesday at his residence.

His wife, Alyce Marie Shireman Taulbee, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church in Frenchburg. Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery in Ezel.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Isom Gibson - 1930-2010

Wm. Isom Gibson, 79, of Ironton, died Tuesday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born July 9, 1930, in South Point.

His wife, Joanne Evans Gibson, survives.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
