Ray D. Caldwell 1920-2012

ASHLAND — Ray D. “Dick” Caldwell, of Ashland, peacefully went to be with his Lord Friday, July 13, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Mr. Caldwell was 91 years of age, born Dec. 28, 1920, in Catlettsburg, the son of the late Everett and Margaret McGinnis Caldwell, and Ester Vaughn Caldwell.

Dick was a dedicated and faithful member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church for 80 years. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and a church treasurer. He enjoyed boating, fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 67 years, Sara Fields Caldwell.

Sadly left behind is an adoring family, Ray D. “Dicky” Caldwell (Cheryl), Joseph D. “Joe” Caldwell (Paula Glazer) and E. Mark Caldwell (Punkie). Grandchildren, Tracy Penix (Ed), Joe Caldwell (Tracy), Erin Caldwell, Zack Caldwell (Rebecca), Micah Horton (Kyle); and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Adie, and Aly Caldwell, Caleb and Noah Caldwell, and Jace Horton.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Caldwell will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. today, July 15, 2012, at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg. A message of hope and inspiration will be offered by Pastor Mike Blankenship.

The Caldwell family will receive friends and family after 4 p.m. today, preceding the service, at the church. A  solemn committal service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16th, 2012 in the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel in Ashland.

A special thank you to King’s Daughters Medical Center, Sunset Nursing Center, and Community Hospice of Ashland.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Freeman/Caldwell Scholarship Fund or Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, c/o Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, 3265 Oakland Avenue, Catlettsburg, KY 41129.

Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.
