Sue Ann “Susie” Sturgill Parker 1947-2012

ASHLAND — Mrs. Sue Ann “Susie” Sturgill Parker, 65, of Grahn, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born July 9, 1947, in Grahn, a daughter of the late Charlie Andrew Sturgill and Bethel Brown Sturgill Barker.

Susie was a member of Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church. At the last church service she was able to attend, she asked the church to come to the front and sing two of her favorite songs with her, “Stroll Over Heaven With You” and “It’s a Little Church.” She loved her church family dearly and enjoyed being with them any chance she could. Susie was a volunteer at the Grahn Community Center and a member of the Grahn Homemakers Club. She was a sweet, beautiful, compassionate person who loved everyone and had a way of making everyone she came in contact with feel very special.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Sturgill, Charles Alcus “Alkie” Sturgill and Kenneth Wade Sturgill; and two sisters, Vandetta Cox and Martine James.

Susie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Donald Parker; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Clifford Price of Olive Hill and Bethany and Chad Lowery of Morehead; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Treva and C.J. Barker and Linda and Claude Valandingham, all of Olive Hill, and Eloise Vowels of Brandenburg; three sisters-in-law, Loretta Sturgill of Grayson, Frances Parker of Olive Hill and Claris Parker of Goshen, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Laken Price, Landon Price, Isaac Donehue, Micah Lowery, Dakota Lowery, Ethan Lowery and Brianna Lowery.

She was known to her grandchildren and all other children in her life as a wonderful playmate who loved to pretend play with them. She also leaves a special friend, Barbara Wilburn; many other family members; church family; neighbors; and friends who will sadly miss her.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 30, 2012, at  Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church by Brother Jimmy Barker and Brother Herman Copley. Burial will be in Biggs Hill Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, and will also be an hour before services today at the church.

Susie’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Meals on Wheels of Olive Hill, P.O. Box 239, Olive Hill, KY 41164.

Condolences may be sent to globefc.com.
