FLATWOODS —
Norvalee Blevins, 91, of Flatwoods, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland with his family by his side.
He was born July 1, 1921, in Oldtown, to the late Emmitt and Hanner Prince Blevins.
Mr. Blevins was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served honorably during World War II. Norvalee was a power house operator for AK Steel and was a member of Rush Masonic Lodge 715, F&AM, and First Baptist Church of Flatwoods. Mr. Blevins enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers, planting roses, reading, bird watching and Westerns on TV, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Scaggs-Blevins; three brothers, Ernest, Estil and Phillip Blevins; three sisters, Fern Pancake, Opel Morgan, and Ethyl Blevins; and a granddaughter, Brandi Blevins.
Norvalee leaves behind a caring and compassionate family, including three sons, Gary Blevins of Livingston, Texas, Stephen (Chiquita) Blevins of Flatwoods and Daniel (Debbie) Blevins of Greenup; daughters Nancy Blevins of Flatwoods and Rhonda (Jack Jr.) Steele of Flatwoods; five grandchildren, Michelle Blevins Salyers, Dan Blevins, Devonna Blevins-Marble, Jerri Steele Dull and J.D. Steele; two great-grandchildren, Haley Salyers and Dylan Dull; and many nieces nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Flatwoods by Brother Jim Nichols, David Daniels, Bob Wilson and Roger Marshall. Burial will be in Blevins Family Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Carman Funeral Home-Flatwoods.
