Mark Whitt 1952-2012

GREENUP — Shelby Mark Whitt, 59, of Greenup, formerly of Westwood, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following a sudden illness.  

Mark was born Nov. 27, 1952, in Ashland, a son of the late Jack and Vaudie Smith Whitt.

He was a retired insulator and carpenter with Marathon Petroleum. He was a 1970 graduate of Fairview High School, was a Kentucky colonel, was active in the 2008 Steelworkers Political Campaign, served on the Greenup County Democratic Executive Board, was a member of the senior golf league at The Oaks in Flatwoods, and Local 00819 and operated Big River Farm Animal Rescue.  

Mark is survived by his life partner of 24 years, Dawn Colley; two daughters, April Spradlin (Mike) of Greenup and Sidney Keeton (James) of Russell; three grandchildren, Ethan, Austin, and Barrett; four brothers, Stephen Whitt of Yuma, Ariz., John Whitt (Don Stewart) of Ashland, Rick Whitt (Joyce) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Robert Joseph Whitt of Lexington;  a sister, Linda Layne (John) of Manton; a special nephew, Jake; and three special nieces, Shelby, Haley, and Alyson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Randy Scaggs.  

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A private committal service will be held at a later date.
