Genora "Genny" Elliott, 87, of Bartow, Fla., died peacefully in her home on Dec. 28, 2012, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
She was born March 10, 1925, in Greenup County, to the late Albert & Florence Melvin.
In 1970, Genny and Curtis moved to Bartow, Fla. With her people-loving personality, Genny went to work for Publix Supermarkets in 1972, a job she reluctantly retired from in 2008 at age 83. When time availed itself, Genny also enjoyed sewing, quilting & Bingo. One who preferred family time to travel, she nevertheless delighted in her annual trip to Las Vegas. A loyal, hard-worker with a generous spirit and a very quick wit, Genny always put a smile on the face of those having the pleasure of her company. She was dearly loved and will be missed beyond measure.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters; three brothers; and her husband, Curtis Elliott.
She is survived by her beloved children, Claudia (William) Bodette of Garden, Mich., Albert (Meg) Tackett of Beulah, Mich., and Clayton Tackett of Bartow, Fla.; her grandchildren, Paul (Shree) Williams of Waterford, Mich., Darwin (Cindy) Williams of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Tracy Tackett of Waterford, Mich.; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her loving companion, Charles Newmann; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, with Pastor Mark Wilson officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the funeral home.
