George Herman Burgess - 1922-2012

ASHLAND — George Herman Burgess, 90, of Ashland died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Lawrence Co., the son of the late Allen P. and Dora Wilson Burgess.  

He was a former carpenter for Chandler’s Plywood, a member of the East Fork United Baptist Church and a WWII Army veteran earning a Bronze Star.

 In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Belle Walters Burgess; a daughter, Gloria Burgess; and a brother, Marion Thomas Burgess.  He is survived by five daughters, Nancy Ross (John) of Ashland, Dora  Cook (Donald) of Lexington, Lou Ann Myer (Ralph) of Ashland, Angela Faye Crice (Rodney) of Independence and Maebelle Shepherd (William) of Ashland; one son, Gordon H. Burgess (Ilah) of Ashland; eleven grandchildren, Donald Cook, Jr, Joseph Ross, John B. Ross (Brooke), James Ross (Laura Jo), Sarah Myer, Destiny Myer, Catherine Turner, Sydney Shepherd, Morgan Shepherd, Brandon Crice and Cory Crice; and three great grandchildren, Eva Ross, Zoe Ross and Ian Ross.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Nov. 24, 2012, at the East Fork United Baptist Church in Rush, with Elder David Trimble and Gordon Burgess officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland with military graveside rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.  

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Fork United Baptist Church, c/o David Trimble, 907 Four Mile Rd. Rush, KY 41168.
