ASHLAND —
John Franklin McIntyre Jr., 70, of Ashland, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Mr. McIntyre was born Dec. 5, 1942, in Ashland, the son of the late John and Alene Huff McIntyre.
John was a 1960 graduate of Ashland High School, a 1967 graduate of Morehead State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a member of Unity Baptist Church. He retired from Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in July 2004, where he worked for more than 20 years. He was an avid UK fan and loved traveling.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lonnie Reid, in April 2012 and a wife, Beverly Preston Light McIntyre, in 1995.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Karen Brown Hogsten McIntyre, whom he married Sept. 28, 1996; his mother-in-law, Gertrude Reid of Flatwoods; two sons, David (Amy) and Jeff McIntyre, both of Lexington; a brother, Steve (Valerie) McIntyre of Richmond; a stepdaughter, Christina Michelle (Donnie) Inskeep of Russell; a stepson, Kenneth Dale (Crissy) Hogsten Jr. of Georgetown; seven very precious grandchildren whom he loved very much, Zeb and Stella McIntyre, Lexie, Casey and Faith Hogsten and Nicholas and Olivia Inskeep; several foster stepgrandchildren; and his special furry friend, Kimo.
He is also survived by sisters-in-law Donna Hignite (Jim Shannon) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ruby Jane Blevins of Sciotoville, Ohio, Anna Marie (George) Russell of Wurtland, and Vicki (Jimmy) Groves of Flatwoods; and a brother-in-law, Clyde (Lana) Brown of Georgetown.
A memorial service will be at noon Friday at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland by Dr. Floyd Paris. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland and after 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
