Edward G. Gee - 1920-2013

OLIVE HILL — Mr. Edward G. Gee, 92, of Olive Hill, passed peacefully from this life to his heavenly home on Friday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born March 16, 1920, in Olive Hill, a son of the late Kim and Virgie Whitt Gee.

Ed was a member of Globe Christian Church for more than 50 years, having served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and on the church board. He retired as a major from the U.S. Army, where he was a courier for Gen. Douglas MacArthur during World War II. He received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. Ed served as commander of the Olive Hill National Guard unit from 1947 to 1961 and was a member of American Legion Post 138 for more than 60 years. He was a salesman for Purity Bread Co.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hurst Gee, and a sister, Hazel Boggs.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Venus Biggs Gee; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sandy Gee of Bluffton, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Carl Stamper and Kathy and Paul Wilson, all of Olive Hill; six grandchildren, Dana (Randy) Kerns, Josh (Sun) Stamper, Elizabeth Stamper, Roby (Alison) Gee, Jason (Shannon) Wilson and Becky (Ted) Griffith; three great-grandchildren, Kody Gee, Noel Gee and Samuel Wilson; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Dora Gee of Olive Hill and twins Harold “Tweety” and Virginia Gee of Olive Hill and Darrell “Chubby” and Lois Gee of Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members, church family, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss him, but rejoice in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Globe Christian Church by Elder Amos Maddix, Brother Clyde Holbrook, Brother Frank Hulett and Pastor David Rayburn. Burial will be in Tick Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, with full military honors by Olive Hill American Legion Post 138.

Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 23, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 W. U.S. 60, Olive Hill, and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Roby Gee, Jason Wilson, Josh Stamper, Randy Kerns, Ted Griffith and Keith Gee will serve as pallbearers.
