Clarence E. Jackson 1929-2013

ASHLAND — Clarence E. Jackson, 83, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.  

Clarence was born on Nov. 9, 1929, in Ashland, an only child of Ruby and Gladys Dixon Howard Jackson.

He retired with 44 years of service with Armco Steel as a steel pourer. He was an active member of the Democratic Club and was a former Boyd County commissioner and state representative. He served 18 years with the Army National Guard and was a member of American Legion Clarence Fields Post 76, the VFW, the Eagles and the Masonic lodge, all in Ashland.  

He is survived by a son, Stephen (Lynn) Jackson of Ashland; a daughter, Patricia Cantrell of Ashland; a stepson, David Rutherford of Kentucky; four grandchildren, Cassandra Cantrell, Jackie Martin, Amanda Trusty and Megan Rutherford; five great-grandchildren, Zoie McGinnis, Mikayla and Miranda Martin and Travis and Chad Trusty; a special friend, Ellen Bolt; and caring caregivers Samantha Wolfe and Linda Sparks.  

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Mike Rice. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 28, 2013, at the funeral home.
