Saying goodbye

Russell Middle School said goodbye Monday to Charlotte Ison, who has been a custodian at the school for almost as long as anyone can remember, and has worked in the district even longer.

Ison has cleaned many a mile of hallway since her first day in 1956, when then-superintendent Henry Evans drove her to Russell-McDowell Middle School and said, “This is where you’ll be working.”

She shifted over to Russell Central in 1958, then after a three-year hiatus came back and worked at the middle school starting in 1964.

“If I had all my employees like her, I don’t care what I ask her to do, she’d do it,” said maintenance supervisor Dave Craft.

The district bade her farewell with a reception at the middle school.
