Thousands expected at Ky. bluegrass festival

ROSINE, Ky. — Thousands of people from around the country and parts of Europe are expected to attend this year's bluegrass music festival in western Kentucky.

The event honors the legacy of Bill Monroe, an Ohio County native and mandolin player who shaped traditional bluegrass by melding old-time string band music with blues, gospel and other styles.

The Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Celebration is held at the farm where Monroe lived, just west of Rosine. It runs Thursday through Sunday.

Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Music Foundation executive director Campbell Mercer told the Messenger-Inquirer of Owensboro that e-mails about the festival are coming in from around the country and parts of Europe.

Mercer attributes the interest to "The Cumberland Highlanders Show," which airs on satellite channel RFD-TV and is now being shown in parts of Europe.
