State still enforcing law, despite ruling

:FRANKFORT — State parole officers continue to enforce a Kentucky statute that has been limited by a state Supreme Court ruling.

The Lexington Herald-Leader quoted Department of Corrections spokeswoman Lisa Lamb, who said the department believes the law regarding where convicted sex offenders can live is still in effect.

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway said Thursday he will appeal the ruling in which the court said the stricter statute doesn't apply to people convicted before it was enacted in July 2006.

The law makes it illegal for sex offenders to live near parks, schools and other places children gather.

Conway has asked the Kentucky Supreme Court to suspend its ruling while he appeals it the U.S. Supreme Court. The Kentucky court hasn't ruled on that motion.
