:FRANKFORT — Kentucky public school districts, as well as teachers and retirees under age 65, would pay more for retiree health care under an agreement to preserve the benefits but also save taxpayer money.
The Louisville Courier reported that on Friday, representatives of the teachers, retirees and school boards signed onto a deal on Friday in Frankfort.
Under the proposal, current teachers would contribute an additional .25 percent of their payroll for retiree health care starting next fiscal year. Retired teachers under age 65 would begin contributing $37 per month next year.
And school systems would contribute .25 percent of payroll next fiscal year and gradually see that amount increase until fiscal year 2016, when they would contribute 3 percent.
