BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A recommendation to deny benefits to same-sex and opposite-sex unmarried couples at Western Kentucky University is drawing heated opposition.
The Daily News of Bowling Green reports students and faculty support changing the university's position on benefits, but a committee that makes recommendations to the university voted down the proposed change last week for the second time since August.
Tony Glisson, director of Western's department of human resources and a committee member, says the 8-6 vote was based largely on the fact that Kentucky doesn't legally recognize same-sex marriage.
The decision is a formal recommendation to the university and not a final action.
