ANN DAVIS GALLERY

“Strangers Whose Faces I Know” — An exhibit of paintings by the ACTCs art instructor Wendy Fosterwelsh.

ART OF THE REDEEMED

STUDIO & GALLERY

The gallery, in Suite 206 on the second floor of the Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., Ashland, is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.

Special exhibit — “Toothpick Constructions” by Les Hayes, which include a replica of his home, the Spider Web House, Cracker Barrel restaurants, the old Russell High School, houses, barns, churches and depots.

‰On exhibit — New impressionistic landscapes and seascapes in oil by Kirtz. Also on exhibit are pastels, acrylics and mixed-media works.

‰On exhibit — New contemporary works by Chapman in acrylic and mixed media. He is accepting portrait commissions.

Openings are still available in classes or private lessons in pastel, acrylic and oil.

The studio and gallery are handicapped accessible with an elevator and open by appointment.

BANANA TREE STUDIOS

Evening art classes at the studio. Classes are limited to six to eight students, beginners to advanced. All classes are $110 for the sessions. Gift certificates are available.

DOODLES STUDIO & GALLERY

‰Today, 5 to 9 p.m. — Reception to introduce “The Barns & Quilts of Fleming County: A Photographic Journey” by Carol Shutt. The public is invited to see the photography and some tasty offerings from the new Fleming County Homemakers Cookbook. “Clothesline of Quilts” will be on sale and wine and cheese will be served.

The show will run until June 6, when Doodles will have a new show, “The Fruits of Summer,” which opens at 5 p.m. on June 6.

‰2008 Student Art Show: 25 Picasso-style self portraits chosen from more than 150 works created in our March workshop, “When I Grow Up: Self Portraits for the Future.” On display through May 10.

‰“Mr. Lincoln’s War: The Civil War in Eastern Kentucky:” A new museum exhibit that concentrates on the impact of President Lincoln’s policies in eastern Kentucky and those who went to fight and those who were left behind. On display through February 2009.

‰Steel Rails: A new museum exhibit that examines industry in our region. See what attracted early settlers to our area and learn about the various industries that were developed — iron, oil, coal, and rail. Hands-on activities for children.

‰“American Spirit: The A.G. Edwards/Wachovia Securities Collection,” an exhibit of more than 50 pieces. Through July 13. Artists featured include Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, George Catlin, Howard Chandler Christy and Edward Penfield.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

IASEglobal's GALLERY 24 7

Friday, 5:30 p.m. — Opening show with Scott Robinson, International Artist Activist. Works on display are from Deconstructive Project: 2006 and represent his voice against the U.S. Israeli bombing and destruction of Lebanon during the summer of 2006.

Also exhibiting is Ohio artist Sharon Davis.

JESSE STUART FOUNDATION

Exhibits:

“Image of Appalachia,” a collection of more than 60 black-and-white photographs of eastern Kentucky and West Virginia from the 1920s and 1930s is on display.

“The Leming Gallery,” a collection of reminiscences reflected in the work of local artists. Jim Marsh, Steve McClements, Billy Kersey, Buzzy Leming and Carolina Wilson will be on display.

In the School of Art Gallery:

Exhibition and symposium are made possible by Arts for Ohio New Initiative grant and are a collaboration between the School of Art.

PAINTED COW GALLERY

Studio home for the Lawrence County Arts Council in downtown Louisa, 103 S. Main Cross St., across from the Lawrence County Court House. The gallery has a wide diversity of fine hand made artwork on display and for sale from artists from the Tri-State area and beyond.

“For the Love of Animals” is the featured exhibit this month.

Tuesdays — Artists Day. Bring your own supplies (except oils) and for $5 spend the day creating with other artists.

LCAC is looking for additional volunteers for this Saturday to meet at the gallery for a public art project.

THE PENDLETON ART CENTER

Join us for an exciting First Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. Musicians Bob Mann and Kenny Salter of Huntington will perform saxophone duets ranging from classical to jazz. Artists will be in their studios to exhibit, discuss and sell their latest works. Artist of the month is J. Bird Cremeans, photographer and caricature artist who will be available in her studio to do caricatures. Some artists will be in their studios on for Second Look Saturday from 2-6 p.m.

Tonight will be First Thursday, a time for poets, storytellers, musicians and songwriters to perform during an open mic event at The Left Bank Café.

THE UPSTAIRS GALLERY

Third annual Spring Art Show at The Thoroughbred Agency, hosted by the gallery. Opening reception will be during First Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7 p.m. Clarence Ball will be the judge of the show. The show includes paintings and collages. Continues through May 30.

Harp music will be provided by Aaron Yeager.

This marks the fifth anniversary of The Upstairs Gallery.

The gallery’s collection contains works by 30 of the best artists in the area.

May — Featured artist is Ann Marie Adkins with her oil, acrylics and handmade women’s clothing.
