BANANA TREE STUDIOS

Classes:

Jan. 19 through March 9 — Drawing.

Jan. 21 through March 11 — Watercolors.

Jan. 29 through March 19 — Ceramics.

The studio offers class instruction in ceramics, watercolors and oils.

All classes are open to beginners as well as advanced students. Classes are for eight weeks, meeting once a week for 21/2 hours. There must be five students registered for the class. Cost is $110.

Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment at 121 E. Electric Ave. in Flemingsburg.

JESSE STUART FOUNDATION

The Regional Readers will meet on the last Tuesday of each month to discuss a book about this region. Anyone is welcome to join the group.

The bookstores have many cookbooks for your holiday cooking and baking such as the “W-Hollow Holiday Cookbook;’ ‘ Best of the Best in Kentucky;’ and ‘What’s Cooking for the Holidays.”

A new bookstore has opened that includes books by Jesse Stuart, Billy C. Clark, Harry Caudill, Thomas D. Clark, Allan W. Eckert and hundreds of other Kentucky and Appalachian authors.

Potters’ Loft

Visit the loft any Monday or Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for a preview of the students’ work and see them perform on the wheel.

PAINTED COW GALLERY

The gallery and Lawrence County Arts Council will sponsor art classes for students each Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the gallery. Beginning watercolor classes for adults are offered at noon on the first Saturday of each month for $25 per session, including supplies. For reservations call Maureen at (606) 638-1313.

There will be a silent auction this month for a one-of-a-kind watercolor by Maureen Dosier. The painting is named “Night Flight” and is matted and framed and ready to hang.

The gallery is featuring the hard and soft bound copies autographed and for sale.

Author Sydney Burns Turnbull will be featured at the gallery for a booksigning at 1 p.m. Saturday. Her newest book is titled “The Sixth Floor.” There will be copies of the book “Patent Leather Shoes and Transparent Pie” also for signing.

Every Tuesday is Artist’s Day. Bring your own supplies (except oils and clay) and spend the day creating with other artists for a small fee.
