ARGILLITE — A Greenup County Sheriff Deputy remained in serious condition Friday morning after being struck by a car on Thursday night, according to the Kentucky State Police.
Matthew Smith, 49, was on the scene of a separate collision when he was hit by a car traveling south on Ky. 207. The driver struck the deputy and a tow truck driver with D.J.’s Towing around 8 p.m.
Lloyd Caudill, 43, was also on the scene and was removing a vehicle.
Smith and Caudill were positioned between the two truck and Smith’s cruiser when they were struck. Caudill was treated and released at the scene.
Christina D. Neathercutt, 43, of Argillite, who was driving a 2005 Ford Focus that hit the men, was not injured and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
Smith was transported to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, the KSP report said.
Little Sandy Fire Department and Greenup County EMS also responded and assisted at the accident scene.
No further details were available.
The collision remains under investigation by Sergeant Erik Kouns.
