Sunday alcohol passes easily in both precincts

ASHLAND — Sunday alcohol sales by the drink in two downtown Ashland precincts passed on Tuesday in an election where less than 15 percent of eligible voters participated.

A successful petition put the measure in front of the voters. However, only 207 of around 1,500 eligible voters came to the polls.

Unofficial numbers showed the Moore precinct passing by a 62 to 21 vote; Central precinct was 95-29.

Restaurants in the Central and Moore precincts seating 100 patrons and making 50 percent of their gross receipts from food sales would be able to sell alcohol by the drink between noon Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday. Private clubs would also be allowed to sell alcohol by the drink on Sundays.

The majority of restaurants, including Applebee’s, Bella Fonte Italian Restaurant, Blue Ribbon Lanes, the Chimney Corner Café, Fat Patty’s, La Finca, Moe’s, Rancho Grande and Ruby Tuesday are in Central precinct.

Restaurants in the Moore precinct are Cheddar’s, Fiesta Bravo, O’Charley’s, Outback and Texas Roadhouse.
